What is the 3 gun? You just take 3 of your guns and shoot them?

Rifle, pistol, and shotgun. Its a tacticool game. If I had anything up and running to my satisfaction I'd go.

Man, that does sound fun!

Would an AR be ok for the rifle?

Most shoot ARs so it'd be fine.

I have a shotgun, but its the 18in, remington 870, home defense shotgun. Is it shooting at skeet, or targets, or what?

What kind of sights? Does it have to be steel sights or what are the rules.

18" 870 would be great. Last one I shot the SG targets included clays that were pegged off the ground on stakes, plates, and poppers. The poppers were shot with slugs and everything else with birdshot. Nothing was airborn.

Its basically an IDPA/IPSC match that incorporates rifles and shotguns. Alot of the shooting is done on shillote(sp?) targets.

It usually broken up into major (.45, 308) and minor (223, 9mm) for scoring. Scores are based on time and accuracy.

Not sure on the exact rules but I know most everyone had optics on their rifles from ACOGS to Aimpoints.

This one should be free. Call the gun club and ask for Glen or call Sportsman's at 302 4800. I have the details. They will even let you borrow a gun if you need one!

It will be my first 3 gun and I'm looking forward to it. Here is a link to OKC Gun Club and they have a link there to the rules. http://ipsc.okcgunclub.org/

There is also a powerpoint file and jpg on www.brianenos.com under the forums on 3 gun matches that shows this week's stages they have planned. Looks like it is going to very new shooter friendly and should be a lot of fun.

I went to the event that they had last month. They are SUPER friendly, and even offered all three guns to me if I wanted to compete.

Even if you don't end up shooting, going up there and asking questions really helped me out! Plus you get to see some good shooting.

Hoov--could you please PM me the details that you are talking about? thanks!

I have shot their 3-gun matches......they are very nice people and will help you out.......just bring what you have for the first time and it should not be a problem......then you can see what everyone else is running and ask about the specific rules for weapon configurations.

have fun! i wish i could go, but heading up to montana.

take 100 of each and bring about 20 slugs.......you should be safe with that

I clicked on the site and that pretty much answered my questions. About 75-100 rounds for each gun. There are even some pics. Looks like AR's with some sort of scope was used the most. Didn't see any Eotechs, but they might be used?

Really looks fun.

Helmut

they do scoring by division

Tactical Iron (like limited in uspsa)
Tactical Scope (like uspsa tactical class....one optic only on rifle)
He-Man (308/20rds irons, 45acp/10rds, 12ga pump/9rds)
Open (like uspsa open)

Just remember (2 hits anywhere on the paper or 1 "A" hit is a neutralized target)......steel must fall and 1 BB in pigeons is neutralized.

just take what you have and have fun!!!!!!!!!

I don't think the round count really matters much this time. It looks like it is going to be very new 3 gunner friendly. If you look at the stages and if you were to make all A's, hit all poppers, and all clays, I think you would need 18 rifle rounds, 20 pistol, 27 shot shells, and 6 slugs. In other words, I'll need about 72 rifle, 80 pistol, 108 shotshells, and 24 slugs.:)
I think Curt, Mike, and Glenn are thinking about walking new shooters thru each stage as we shoot and letting us shoot them more than once if we want to get the hang of it. Let's all get out and support it. Most of have an AR or Mini 14, shotgun, and handgun. See you guys there.

Hey pstmstr, you are correct sir! I think they are trying to get new shooters out. Glen told me that they will walk you through, loan you a gun, not charge an entry fee for the new shooters and help you in any way they can. I don't know if I will be able to go or not because we were crazy busy today and tomorrow will be the same. If you have ever been interested, go. Oh yeah, they will be giving away crack from my store as well.

It was a nice day for the 3 Gun match. This was the first time I have attended one of these, and it looks very interesting. I did not shoot today, just watched. I wanted to see what all these guys do, so I can practice some before I shoot for the 1st time. Anyway, it was a fun match; fun to watch anyway!!!

Hoov, who was they??? I didn't see any crack being handed out...

How many showed for the match? I wasn't able to make it up there, and I am curious as to how things went

About 20 people.

It was a lot of fun for a newbie, I think I like it better than just pistol matches. Got to practice that shotgun loading though. Some of the those guys can load with the left hand and grab 4 shells at a time from the holder. The rifle stage was fun and nothing very long range this time which was a good thing for me.
