Just got a recurve set up for bowfishing. Does anyone have any places to recommend to go fishing?

I would like to fish for some trout but I can't think off hand any river/stream close to Tulsa I have seen trout. Last time I was in the Illinois river there were alot of guys with trout lines set up. But to be honest I don't expect to be able to hit anything my first time so not going to be picky just want some experience.

I know a couple guys that bowfish. I will ask them about places around Tulsa. I have watched many guys bowfish, while I was bass fishing. The ones that I talked to said they would take about anything, but usually had an easier time with Carp???

Good Lord, you cant shoot trout with a bow!
These boys in green will use your bow for a tomato plant stake if they catch you doing or trying that.
Youre looking at Carp, buffalo (sheepshead), gar, or grasscarp.
Only non-game fish are good to bowhunt.
Remember to shoot high, at least 6-8 inches high, depending on the size of the fish and how deep he is.
Do you have bowfishing arrows? line?
Where are you located? I wouldnt mind dusting off the recurve and trying to find a spot with you.

Shoot high? Every place I read on the topic said to shoot 12-18 inches low. I have a PSE kingfisher with a zebco reel, cobra arrow rest, and cobra bantam sight. Never shot a bow before so this is all new to me. I just walked into Academy and went crazy. I am in Tulsa and would like some company especially since you are experienced. Anyone else want to come?

Youre right; shoot low, its the fish thats "high". My bad.
You need some solid fiberglass arrows, normal hunting arrows wont go through the water very well.
Im down in Norman, so Im not so sure about being able to meet up anytime soon.
-basically, anywhere its shallow and you can see carp flipping around is a good place. Youll be wading, so pay attention to the bottom, some of this OK mud can swallow your legs up to your hips.

Where do you plan on going and about how much did this set-up cost you I know a guy in Fort Gibson that has gone before, but I have never been. Sounds interesting wouldn't mind giving it a try.

I have a little less than $200 in everything. You can just by the PSE kit for $130 but I didn't like the reel or arrow rest on it and added a fiber optic sight which was probably for looks since it seems most recurve shooters shoot of feel.

I bowfish all the time, in the salt fork river north of enid. If you guys need a spot, pm me and let me know a few days ahead of time, and we'll do some carp killin
If you want to really step up, go gar fishing with a bow! Watch your hands and feet boys!
