Im happy to announce that Ive reached an agreement with the folks at Ion Bond.
I can now offer Ion Bond Diamond Black on firearm parts.

The color is a matte/satin black finish. Its ideal for tactical applications.
This is a finish that does not wear quickly like black oxidized finishes do -- it will stay black.

I cant think of another finish Id rather have on any of my guns, period.

The finish is generally 2 microns thin. This is not a conventional coating that adds thickness to the material;
this is a micron level coating, which is an excellent fit for custom fit guns.

Ionbond’s unique application process makes it a finish that does not chip, crack or peel as it is a micron level coating.

The DIAMONDBLACK Ionbond finish is 1500-2000 HV. Typical hard chrome finishes are generally 1050 HV and melonite is in the 700 HV range.

The finish is not "self-lubricating", but it has excellent surface to surface characteristics and several competitive shooters run their Ion-Bonded guns dry.
Ionbond absorbs oil and releases it over time due to the unique characteristics.
Ionbond also reduces the friction coefficient on the coated parts. Steel on steel has a typical friction coefficient of .7;
Steel on IonBond has a typical friction coefficient of .25; Ionbond on Ionbond has a typical friction coefficient of less than .2.
It makes parts a lot more “slippery” and does improve the performance of parts that wear on each other.

PM or email for firm price quotes.

Bare auto slides will run about $125
bare frames $140
Barrels $45
pistol magazine tubes $25
small parts (levers, safeties,etc) $10
Multiple items will get a discount.

Turnaround will typically run 4-6 weeks.

I'm just curious is this the same as the DLC from IonBond I've heard about? Also is it done with a nickel substrate? I'm not looking to refinish anything just yet, but when my holster wear gets worse I would like to have a couple guns refinished and am doing some research in advance.

Will you be doing long gun barrels too? Bolt carriers, etc?

Parts only, or "full deal" barrelled receivers...?

I currently am only offering IonBond for guns I work on; that currently only means pistols; Im not taking in parts. It would be too time consuming to deal with only parts.
I just dont have the manpower.

I can't believe I missed this...... I think someone will be getting my Greyson Rail project for Ionbond.

Olyeller, was just wondering about these two things. I ask about the nickel substrate because I read that it improves the corrosion resistance. Thanks!

Hi, Missed this post, sorry.
It goes to Ion Bond directly; whatever they do, is done. Not privvy to the nickel question. Dont think its done.

all it takes is occasional oil and the corrosion issue is nil.
If youre a saltwater fisherman or sweat like one; Id suggest hardchroming, then IonBond.

I cant seeing spending $500 plus on a finish, though.

Thanks,

I do travel to Florida and spend some time on the ocean is why I asked. Thanks for the suggestion. I almost want my finish to wear off quicker so I have an excuse to send a gun your way :)
