Tulsa Firearms 61st and Garnett - snotty and very expensive - but, convienent and indoor

Tulsa Gun Club - 56 st north and Mingo - not as bad as it sounds - zip down 169 and its a mile off the expressway - $40 dues to finish the year (full calendar year is $80) then $1 to shoot - very nice people

From personal experience and everyone I've ever talked with that's ever been there, I would definitely recommend avoiding Tulsa Firearms. They are elitist, arrogant, expensive, and a few other negative adjectives I won't repeat. They also try to force you to become a member, which is $60+, if you want to take a CCW class there and there's not a very good student/teacher ratio either, at least compared to Green Country Pawn. Another thing that sucks if you CCW, you can't do anything there practical for it...no drawing and firing from concealment, no more than 1 shot per second, no moving around, etc.

I highly recommend getting your hunting license, which is about $25 per year, and taking advantage of the ranges in Okmulgee or Wagoner. It's a bit of a drive, but it's definitely worth it. The one in Okmulgee is much better taken care of, it's in Dripping Springs State Park, on the WMA land IIRC. When friends and I go, half the time we have the place almost entirely to ourselves, there might be one person at the other range, there's a pistol and rifle range side by side. You're more than welcome to join us some time if you'd like. :)

I belong to the NAA Rod and Gun Club out by Coweta. Pretty nice place and easy to get to. It is just off the muskogee turnpike at the coweta exit. They have a Skeet Field, Wobble trap, archery range, pistol range, rifle range, cowboy action shoot and shot gun pattening boards. They just put in a 300yard rifle range. They also have a couple of catch and release ponds too.

Membership seems high but has it's advantages. It is $300 for a lifetime membership that is fully transferable. And $50 a year for range dues. There will be no more than 500 members.

I’m not trying to jump on the “let’s bash Tulsa Firearms bandwagon” . . . but.
They are an indoor range, and it is “air conditioned.” The last two times I have been there, it has been as hot as a blast furnace on the range. I would have preferred to be at an outdoor range, where I could at least have gotten some comfort from a breeze.
I also find it annoying when they ask if my ammo is full metal jacket, and I answer yes. Then they ask if it is store bought, and I answer yes. They ask if I bought it at a gun show, and I answer no. They then want me to pull out all my ammo, so they can “inspect” it. I’m sure they are trying to shame me into buying their overpriced ammo, but I can assure you, that isn’t going to happen. If they were the least bit hospitable, I would buy their overpriced ammo, to support the small businessman.
I got a membership there because it is in town, and convenient . . . but I certainly won’t renew.

Okay, my rant is over - just remember, avoid them like the plague.

Just for the record, I wasn't trying to start a "let's bash Tulsa Firearms" bandwagon in the first place, I just hate new gun owners first experiences to be with those pompous, elitist windbags. I think they drive many newbies away from getting into shooting with the way they act...I would further suspect that they've created more than a few anti gun zealots in the process too. Heck, after dealing with them I can even sorta see how people could become anti-gun in the first place. If someone's only impression of gun owners is from the employees of Tulsa Firearms, no wonder people hate us. With friends like these guys, who needs enemies?

That's why I always offer to take new people shooting with us, so they can see what it's really like, not some horribly skewed perspective based on a single gun store with horribly overpriced merchandise and bad attitudes. I'm not trying to harp on them, just saying we need much more good publicity and less bad publicity if our RKBA is to remain a respected idea throughout the next century or three. :)

I Was A Member At Tulsa Firearms. I Purchased 2 Pistols In 6 Months, They Were Always Rude To Me Unless I Was Buying Something. I Purchased A Pistol On A Friday, And Brought It To There Range (where I Was A Member) And Shot The Pistol That Saturday. The Pistol A Springfield Armory Xd-9 Malfunctioned And It Was In Need Of Repair. They Told Me It Was Under A Lifetime Warranty And Would Be No Problem To Fix. A Week And Half Later I Got A Call Saying My Pistol Was Ready. I Go And Pick It Up And They Accuse Me Of Taking A Pair Of Pliers To It. Keep In Mind I Bought In On A Friday And Shot It At There Range The Next Day.
I Told Them I Had Not Done Anything To It And They Started Yelling And Embarrased Me Infront Of Everyone. I Gave Them My Membership Card Back And Have Not Been Back Since. My Last Pistol Was Purchased At Spartan Gun Shop. At Least They Will Not Ignore You If Your Just Looking. Hope This Helps.

OK, I gotta chime in....I guess I'm the only one who actually likes Tulsa Firearms, and get along well with the staff. I do understand some of the experiences some of you have had, it was a little touch and go when I first started shooting there, but I got to know some of the guys there and really have an enjoyable time shooting there. Is it perfect? No, but it is a nice indoor facility and the most convenient place for me to shoot especially if I am short on time. I'll probably get flamed, but for me, it's not a bad place at all.

I take it that Tulsa Gun Club, is a indoor range ? Never been there. But have been to Tulsa Firearms. I've feel like some of the other statements. Once sold, by ! I live in Coweta and have been on range out here. We call it Oil Capitol. Wagoners range leaves alot to talk about. I'm trying to find a range that I can pump 100 to 200 rounds a month on. And from several positions. Drawing, kneeling, and close fire. Etc. Know of any place?

A couple of weeks ago me and my wife drove by a couple of ranges, Oil Capitol Rod and Gun Club, NAA by Coweta and Tulsa Gun Club. I would love to join Oil Capitol but I am sure that its out of my price range several years ago by in was $700. Someone posted on here that NAA was $300 to buy in. So at $40 plus $15 I will probably join Tulsa Gun Club. I am already a member at Red Castle but almost an hour drive is a pain sometimes. I was also a member of Tulsa Firearms several years back and it seamed like it cost be almost $50 each time I shot there, the are eletest(sp?)

I joined Tulsa gun Club Wednesday. Seemed like a great place to shoot. all outside but where you stand is covered so you are in the shade, etc... And the prices are amazing.

$80 per year or $40 from now till Dec. 31.

Then $1 to shoot and you can bring friends and family and they only pay $1 each also. WOW.

Just provide your own targets (one guy was shooting at paper plates). Now that's affordable and a great idea in my opinion.

I am currently a member of Tulsa Firearms and have been for about a year and a half. At first I really liked the place. I was a newbie so I had no idea what kind of gun I would like to shoot etc.. Lately I have been getting really tired of the staff and the condition of the range. The air conditioning and ventilation suck in the range. The other day I was there shooting my G34 and i was sweating like I was digging a ditch. Needless to say that I shot very few rounds on that day. :) They also billed me for a 'clean and inspect' although they were not supposed to. that means I will not renew my membershio.

Is anyone a member of Red Castle? If so, can you describe what you think of the place?

I was going to ask the same...I've been a member for about 4 years and haven't had that one brought up before.

As an aside, I mentioned earlier that I really haven't any heartburn with Tulsa Firearms, I did notice the range was almost uncomfortably warm when I last shot. I find it interesting that you all have experienced the same. Hopefully this isn't a trend.

Tulsa gun club is so much closer...... :)

Personally I think Red Castle is an awesome range. Good variety on where or what you want to do. It's an on-your-honor type place so once you join, you have the codes to the gate, the paddelocks for trap houses, club house, etc. You can plink, or shoot your targets on ranges up to 600yrds I believe is the longest. Once a year, they open up the 1,000yrd range for one day. (Since they shoot from hill to hill over and across the buildings area.)

Only bad things are that it's a little far to drive, and your first year membership is like $245. (You have to go to a 3-hour orientation before you're granted membership.)

Once it starts cooling back down a little, I'll probably start going on a regular basis again. We can have some "bring an OSA member" days. :)

I found a place in this weekend that is in Claremore. This guy has a range on his land and takes people by appointment only. He charges $10/person.

If anyone want's his name and # let me know.

Is he taking reservations? Yeah, please PM me his info...I am in Verdigris. I shot there a couple of times about 10 years ago, you would drive up and knock on his door. It would defintely be a closer place to shoot.

From what you all have said, it seems like Tulsa Gun Club is the way to go. I think that my husband and I might go check it out. So, does that mean we can join as a family for $80/yr and then we each pay $1 to shoot? That would be awesome if we didn't have to buy 2 memberships! That's the reason why we don't belong to a range (ahem, Tulsa Firearms) because with the 2 of us shooting, it's way too expensive.

"A buddy of Mine joined two years ago, he said 1 grand! To Join. I do think that is wrong."

The reason Oil Capital is $1000 is that you are buying into the land as well as the club. Since the membership is maxed out right now and is limited to 600 members, you own 1/600th of the land if the range is ever forced to be sold.

If my calculations are correct, the land Oil Capital sits on is worth $2 million (conservatively) in today's dollars based on real estate costs in the area.

That means the ownership that I paid $600 for in 2000 is worth $3300 right now. I'd say that's not a bad investment especially given that I get to shoot on it all I want in the meantime.

Plus the nice thing about Oil Capitol is that as opposed to Red Castle which has thousands of members, there are only 600 so there is minmal competition for use of the range at any particular time. Usually, I'm the only one out there.

A good deal if you can get a membership.

It blows my mind that someone hasn't put a range similar to H&H in Tulsa, seemingly it would make a killing.

Ok, so I'm off this next whole week and am going to go shoot quite a bit. I'm assuming for a cheap place, Tulsa Gun Club is the way to go?

I haven't gotten my spot on our land set up great yet and would like someplace that got a decent setup. :)

I go to Tulsa Gun Club - I really like it. I joined in July and it was $40 to finish the year and $15 one time charge. Its usually $80 a year and $1 each time to shot. You can bring a guest ($1 for them) People leave you alone and don't go through you range bag (Tulsa firearms). I wish they had an indoor section also..

Back in '90 a friend and I were shooting at Tulsa Gun Club (Bushmaster Car-15, and pistols) and were were told by some guys we weren't allowed to shoot them there. Something about the planes flying overhead.

I have heard that from Mike himself and Laura. They were looking at it but I think the major reason besides cost that it hasn't happened is the lack of facility space they have right now.
