I refuse to pay to hunt. At least until I win the lottery.
I do most of my hunting on public land. The problem is, I don't know where to dove hunt on public land.

We shoot pigeons at work with air rifles, well, the other day I saw what I thought were 2 pigeons mating on a roof so I took a shot, a dove fell down,
oops.

I will probably head out to Deep Fork or Lexington. May not have any luck, but at least I will finally be HUNTING!
I can't hardly wait for summer to be over. The first of September is the kick off to my favorite time of year, football season and hunting season.

I went to Morris a few years ago and there were over 100 people in a 80 acre field. It wasn't much fun.Would like to go if I could find a place less crowded.

You need to check out Hackberry Flat in Fredrick, we used to go there. It is croweded in places but enough doves for everyone. The 2 hotels fill up in June of July for the 1st week of season. It is several thousand acres of Oklahoma Dept of Wildlife Managed land.

dogbear: yeah iv been there a couple times. my friends step dad sales the passes to go shoot out in morris on all the lease land around their. its freaking rediculous. We're hunting some land inbetween bixby and leonard oklahoma, if you know where indian springs country club is, its just south of the club across the arkansa river, you can always see golfers when the sun rises and there probably wondering wtf WWIII has started....

If you had the time this is the area where around the fields are, there mostly around sod fields by they planted wheat and stuff and plowed it all under and what not to be legal and all dove are pretty thick through here.

if you had the time and wanted to hunt opening day or maybe throughout the week, come down right befor dark on the 29-31st and look for hunters scoping the field i know theres some public land that we hunted last year or someone will let you hop on their land. im 100% sure youll see hunting lurking around down there right befor dark to see how the hunting will be...

We went out Monday morning, had a lite rain most of the morning but we shot a few, they were not flying far. I traded my uncle Remington 870's his was a 870 Magunum and the barrell was 2" shorter than mine. They were both Expresses. We traded even.

Mountain Park WMA is usually a player. Not too crowded, and lead shot okay except in the marked DU waterfowl area. Hackberry Flat is all steel shot mandatory.
Haven't checked out Mountain Park WMA this year--work keeps getting in the way of fun--but opening day and Sept 2 were substandard to poor on the private land I hunt near Snyder (yes, scandal-ridden :censored: little Snyder!).
Last year my best dove hunts were in early Oct. CB

hackberry flats is crazy packed with people on the weekends; during the week, not so bad. I am a district manager with the oklahoman and used to throw papers down in frederick and what brennan said is true.
I just have to drive 10 minutes to my parents farm NE of altus to get all the dove action I want. Although I haven't seen too many this year with no rain.
