I just bought my first bow. It is a Bowtech Tomkat. I chronographed it at 254 fps. That is because I shoot with fingers. With a release, it shoots 265 fps. It is also a 60 lb. draw. I didn't realize that all the stabilizers and anti-vibration devices would slow it down that much. My sticks are carbon fiber 300 grains with 100 grain field points. Anyone have recommendations on hunting tips? My groups are really tight. I have almost Robin Hooded a few times. I have been offered a deer hunt here in the city when season opens up. How hard is it to shoot turkey with a bow? By the way, shooting a bow is a great way to work on your shooting. It will definitely help your trigger control!

Cool, hoov.
250fps with hunting arrows is very fast, and quiet, Ill bet.
whats axel to axel length? these new bows now suck for shooting fingers.

If youre confident of decent shot placement, use NAP spitfire expandable broadheads, or any quality mechanical head. It will save lotsa time farting around with tuning broadheads and they do a number on deer; Ive killed a dozen with those heads back in the day.

I've turkey hunted with a bow several times. The dang things can literally hop over the arrow. First time it happened, I didn't believe it. It was a full on side shot that looked just like the paper targets I had been practicing with and the dang thing hops over the arrow and just stands there. "Die you devil bird of Satan!"

Would have loved to seen that, sounds like a Wile E. coyote thang.

One of the freakiest things I've ever seen, excluding that time I saw JP at the range in drag.

NAP or new archery products make some of the best broadheads on the market and have for several decades. I personally shoot stationary usually the legendary thunderheads in 100 gr. I shot some mechanicals a few time and not knocking anyones stuff but they didnt work for me had them open during flight and those damn orings kept getting lost. Sounds like you have a bow to be proud of and those new bowtechs are fast. Most any tip will do so long as you meet the minimum requirements of the state of ok. Oh and for deer and turkey with a bow i recommend buying a nice large pop up blind you can make the movements needed for archery and not be seen every time, and turkey with a bow these are a must in my book. Good luck.

The guiotillnes are really cool. We play a video of guys using them and they work as advertised! Shooting with fingers doesn't bother me. I actually shoot daggone well that way. I only lose 10fps that way. But I don't have to worry about a release going south either. I am using Vital Impact carbon arrows for practice, but will buy Maximas for hunting. I just wish I could practice shooting out of tree stand. Hmmm, I wonder if the neighbors would mind if I shot off the balcony.....?
