Oct. 11-14 the USPSA Open and Production Nationals will be held at the New USSA facility just north of Tulsa. Most of the best USPSA shooters in the Nation will be right here in Tulsa for the event. The best days to spectate will probably be Thursday and Friday. Saturday is a part day of shooting, with awards later that day.

That link isn't working for me. Can spectators just show up to watch? If so, do you know how much admission is for spectators?

Thanks!

Spectating should be free. It normally is at matches, even the bigger ones.

To get to USPSA Nationals at the United States Shooting Academy, simply take Hwy 75 north of downtown Tulsa, get off on 66th Street North, go east (right turn) for 1.2 miles and turn into the police academy drive. You can't miss it from there.

Spectators are absolutely welcome. There will be food and more vendors at USSA than at the past five nationals events. Be sure to bring your own eye and ear protection.

Go to this link, then look for Nationals button at top of home page: http://www.uspsa.org/

No admission fee for us spectators. We just have to behave ourselves and wear our eye/ear protection near the ranges.

Will the nationals be in Oklahoma again next year? I figure that after a year of practice I might be ready for the nationals next year... :uberblast

I'm not saying you can't do this but... Don't you have to be invited to Nationals?

you can get a slot from your home club (by kissing the butt of the club officers)
or you can get on the waiting list quickly and pay an extra $25. ($275 instead of a slotted $250)

I'm figuring that I'll be a "D" class shooter when I finally get classified. Do "D" class shooters compete in the nationals? Or is it just "B" and above or something?

"Slots" are earned by a Section (geographic region) based on Mission Count. A Section is a state, part of state, or combination of the previous two. One Mission is a portion of one match fee, paid by one individual, at a USPSA match shot inside the section. The number of Missions shot to earn a Slot varies from year to year. The Section Coordinator (SC) gets the Slots from the National body several months previous to the Nationals match. The Slots SHOULD be fairly distributed by the SC to the Clubs within the Section, based on Mission Count earned by each Club, or some formula agreed to by all Clubs within the Section. The Club president/chairman distributes Slots within his Club, based on a predetermined formula, but often it becomes a matter of who can go and is highest on the eligibility list.

Slots can also be earned by high placement at Area Championship matches.

Sometimes, especially when the Nationals is far away geographically from a Section, there are not enough shooters within a Section able to attend, so they cannot all the Slots presented to them. These are turned back into the Nationals for the Waiting List. I’ve gotten into Nationals in the past via the Waiting List method as well as thru earned Slots.

Yes, a "D" class shooter can shoot the Nationals.

We can expect the have the USPSA Nationals here in Tulsa for a term of several years. I would also expect other Nationals to come to USSA in future years.

Cool! So I might actually have a shot to be dead last in next year's nationals! :)

I guess that's a high aspiration ID. I always figured if I had a good time, shoot as well as I could, and didn't make too big a fool of myself it was a success.

Seriously, Area and National USPSA matches are a lot of fun to attend. The Area matches are first-come-first-serve, so consider attending one of them. Area 3 and Area 4 matches often are pretty good. This year's Area 4 was fraught with some administrative and planning issues, but that is not often the case.

:)

I have a lot of fun at the matches, and I have no doubt that I'll continue to do so. At the same time, I'd like to improve. I've found that I tend to improve and maintain interest in something if I have definite goals in mind. So, for the next year my goal is to make it to the nationals. I may not do well, but I'll be satisfied if I get there and don't make a fool of myself. :)

Now that I've got that goal firmly in mind, I'll start backwards planning to set goals for each month leading up to nationals next year. They'll be realistic, such as: during November's match, my goal will be to shoot at least one match with all 'A's, no matter what the time is. After that, I'll have to look at other specific areas, like maybe cutting my reload time by 1/3 or something. Each goal needs to be measurable from month to month, and applicable to my performance for the overall goal. I guess I need to break down and analyze each step from the initial draw through reholstering and see how I'm doing and what I need to work on.

Just a side note for those who think I may be showing "swollen ego syndrome". :) I know I'm not great, or even really good at USPSA. I don't expect to be a world champion 12 months from now. I just look back twelve months ago when I bought my G19 from H&H. I hadn't shot in 14 years and had never had any kind of training. I see what I was like then, what I'm like now, and dream of what I can be in another year. And I expect to have a lot of fun getting there. :)

I went to USPSA Nationals, as a spectator, this afternoon. Even though the USSA facility is not fully finished, it is a spectacular sight. Worth the price of admission (none) just to see the bays and stages. Two big vendor tents, with maybe 30 showing their wares. Friday shooting continues all day, as it does on Saturday morning. Awards later on Saturday.

Turn in (to south) at drive marked Tulsa Police Academy. Continue on the east side of the academy to the 2nd LEFT turn (USPSA sign attached to fence at this left). Park in the ample parking lots and go see. The Vendor Tents are the green and white stripe jobs. Ranges (two deep) are a short walk south.

Be sure to bring your eye and ear protection!

I am going tomorrow (Fri.). I can't wait.

I'm leaving from Joplin as soon as I drop the kids off at school.

Any good deals on competition related stuff in the vendor area?

Bring money as you may want to spend some. Lots of competition-specific gun parts. Plenty of various makers handguns (STI, Para, Glock, etc) to pick up and wave around. Demo on a new auto bullet feeder for a Dillon 1050 press. Not a lot by way of leather.

I had a good time there today; it was freezing, though.
I got some real good video of the pros;
I even have a clip of Todd Jarrett coming out of a porta-potty.

You are only as good as you want to be...therefore, if you want to be dead last then that is where you finish. Keep a positive outlook for you shooting career and you will go far.

Im going again tomorrow. Have ALOT of the super squad on video and its a different view, nothing like watching Sevigny, Jarrett, Leatham, Tomaise (SP) shoot virtually back to back. Going back in the morning to get some good vids of Julie Goloski, wish I was staying later, and finish out my video collection of the SS.

Im looking forward to the day I get to see Tammy running in their catagory, cant beat her attitude and focus.

Am heading out up there later this morning myself. Over on the Brianenos.com forum it sounds like it is a tough match. Kelly, James and the rest of them have been working their collective butts off to make this happen. Glad we have a facility like this within a two hours drive. Should be some great matches up there in the future.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I want to be the best, and I'm working hard to improve. I just want to set attainable goals, and I doubt that I could beat any of the Super Squad with only a year's worth of practice. Now in two years, maybe! :)

I also have my great Grandfather's (http://swcenter.fortlewis.edu/inventory/Ochsner.htm) rather large shoes to fill, so my Mom is watching my progress closely. :)

Seriously, I used to think I was a pretty good shot until I started shooting these matches. Now I'm motivated to join the leaders of the pack, but I know it's a long road and will take a lot of committment to reach that goal.

Just got back from this wonderful facility. When it is complete, it will be a showcase for shooters. Watched some of the Super Squad and just wandered the bays. Looks like a good match. Alot of distance/accuracy shooting involved. The vendors tent had some sweet looking guns too. The models that were driving the refreshment wagons were not bad either(not that I noticed them or anything).:selfangel

Are these being held actually at the TPD firing range?

New range is located right next to the Police Academy.
