Tell me what you really think. I'm pretty tough and can handle it.

First stage I took 12th, second stage I took 20th, third stage 7th, fourth stage 6th. That was out of 24 shooters. On the second stage I think I had 3 mikes and 1 no shoot, that's what killed me there.

Thanks again to sonny74 and his wife for the video.

That's my new L10 gun by the way. It's a 5" XD 40 with a few things done to it. :D

It was kind of hard to tell, were you having malfunctions of some kind??

MarkV

I'm not 100% sure what the malfunctions were. I'm running a 14lb spring and that may be to light. So it may have come out of or not gone into battery. It happened 3 times at the match, and once last night when I was practicing. I found one of the bullets I ejected at the match and there was no primer punch on it. I'm using Federal primers also.

I was looking for critique on my form really.

I know. I'm not a competition shooter, so I can't really comment on your form.

Looks like a lot of fun. I've never tried any competition shooting.

Thanks for posting that video. I was curious of how it was done and how things were set up. I'm sure it changes each time. It sure looks like fun. I need a little more practice handling my gun before I would want to try this.

You placed 20th and you appear to be much better than me!! Assuming all of those shots hit where they were supposed to. I don't think I am going to be competing any time soon!

Biggest things are safety and fun. As long as you can do both of those you will do just fine.

It looks like you really need to practice point shooting and not really site shooting to be able to do this with any speed.

I was 11th over all. But that's all of the classes mixed together. So there is major and minor scoring mixed. Even though I was shooting major and most of the people that beat me were shooting minor.

It's all about fun. I tried competitive shooting on a whim and now I'm hooked, and 3 of my friends are hooked too.

Actually you are supposed to see the front sight every time you pull the trigger.

Don't let that stop you! Not only is competing a LOT of fun, but it will help you learn where you can improve. Like me, right now I'm working on accuracy, so I don't really look at my overall ranking, I look at how many points and penalties I get compared to everybody else. There's a lot of satisfaction in seeing my accuracy go up after a month of practice at the range and at home (dry firing).

If nothing else, come down and have fun. Think of it as a terrific video game. Just be sure to be safe. :)

Very nice form and grip. You mag changes are indicative of lots of practice. If your gun was running, you would have blazed.

One major area I see where you can shave time is target transition. If your second shot on target is accurate then work on decreasing the time from your second to the third.

As you fire the second shot at T1 your eyes should already be on the way to T2 followed quickly by the gun. A great practice for this is the standard
El Presidente.

Your cadence should will sound more like: pow-pow-pow-pow-pow-pow

instead of: pow-pow----pow-pow----pow-pow

savy?

I see what you are saying about target transition and cadence. I don't have a place where I can practice with mutable targets or movement. Only time I get to do that is at matches.

I've been thinking about that myself. The only thing I've come up with is trying to get to H&H at a time when the range is empty or lightly populated and ask for three lanes that are next to each other. Put out three targets, and try that.

Check out the "skills" forum here.http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?act=idx

You will find a bunch of ways to practice. Some will work indoors, some will need a bit more space. I'm sure harry at Canadian Ranges will let you set some up if your out there on a slow day, and if you ask real nice.

not bad; You shoot on the heels of your feet, and your stance is a little hunched. Bend a little forward and put your shoulders over the tips of your feet.
Did you get the XD spring issue figured out? They take 1911 springs, I think, and Im about to order from brownells, if you want to piggyback on my order.

Hers a clip of me a few months ago at the OK sectionals, thats 2 texas stars one behind the other!

I pretty much sucked.

I would have to practice on a Texas star a lot before I shot one in a match. That thing looked like it was pretty far away too.

I'm having trouble finding a 16lb fixed rate spring. If you can get one of those I'll take one. I'm getting mixed input on the 14lb. Some are saying it junk, and some say it's just fine.

I saw that I was hunched over a lot. Looks like my shoulders were rolled forward. I guess I need to bend more from the hips.

Any entry fee and can you use a double action revolver?

I'd rather use a wheelgun for competition but that is just me.

Set up some 1/3 size Targets in your garage and dryfire practice your transitions.

Do you have a self reseting trigger? Or do you "rack the slide" for each shot?

I have seen kits that reset the trigger and wondered how well they work.

Is H&H relaxed about the rules? I thought you had to have your gun concealed and not open carry?

This is an after-hours match. its a totally cold range, meaning those pistols are all unloaded and cleared by the RO.
