I would love to live in the part of the state that has pheasants. One of these days i am gonna find a place out there and give it a try.
Hunting should be very, very good this year. I've never seen so many pheasants as this past summer, and now fall. Got to honk the car horn while driving to get them to move off the road. Still hit a few even with that. One Saturday during late summer I counted 100 while driving a 50 mile stretch, and those were just along the road.

Where are you seeing them? What part of the state that is?

Seriously, I'll tell you exactly where I counted the 100 that Saturday. If you go northeast out of Guymon on Hwy. 54, about 7 miles, there is a blacktop road heading due north with a sign saying to "Hugoton KS". Head up that road, I started seeing them about 6 miles or so after turning off Hwy. 54. An easier way to maybe see on a map is to find Hooker on Hwy. 54, look due west towards Hough. Pretty much same area. They are thick around there, but again there are lots of birds everywhere. That's just where I saw the most in the shortest amount of time. Some of you "city boys" should come up here and get you some. :)

That's not the smartest thing to do when you live in my 'hood, their homies just might shoot back. And we got alot of "birds" around here. They actually outnumber the "cats".

Does anyone have any connections with private land in Kansas? The limit is 4 up there and the season starts November 4th.
I overheard a phone call that my boss was having with one of our subcontractors in Dodge City. The sub asked if my boss wanted to go hunting and he declined, doesn't hunt. I walked in there after the call and said Hey, I'll go. To late.

I got 2 and one quail today. Unfortunatly most of the roosters flushed too far away for a good shot. We did see hundreds though. There was only three of us so we didnt have anyone blocking.

You know it. Actually I was between Four Corners and Texhoma but yes I was in the Panhandle. I was suprised at how beutiful the weather turned out for opening day, it was nice not having to fight 30+ mph winds.

I hunted Friday, saturday, and Sunday. I ended up with 3 Pheasants and 5 Quail, in about 8 total hours of hunting.
Only saw two spots with alot of birds, one was an area with alot of high weeds near a farmers shipping pens, the other was a small strip of crp grass right next to a sow farm. Both spots had well over 50 Roosters. We took all our Pheasants and most of our quail from the former, at the latter they flushed before we were in range. Outside those two spots I only saw 4 roosters and we had no shot at any of them.
Between 4 of us hunting at diffrent times we have 6 Pheasant and 7 Quail. Not great but I have done much worse in past seasons. I expect the hunting to get better after the holidays, opening weekend is a zoo around here.

10Killer's Murphy Browne, Dec 7, 1994 - Dec 4, 2006
German Shorthaired Pointer
Took her collar off and laid her to rest the other day. No more fences for Murphy. Now it's truly just Ike and I. To honor her, Ike and I went to the Beaver County to hunt some land Murphy and I hunted several years ago. Ike showed his stuff and worked till exhausted. We were there half of Tuesday and half of Wednesday and had a great time. Lot's of birds but it is a friends couple of fields that doesn't get hunted by others. (It's a long haul from Lake Eufaula to Beaver County.)
