It seems to me that some of our members have been robbed. It would play a major role if we had a forum where we could post the vin numbers to stolen guns.

So many of us do lots of trading and buying so this would give us a heads up as what to look for.

A good idea. If there is a way to produce a compact, printable list (suitable for wallet carry) with make, model, serial #, as well as the LE agency to contact (case and phone #) upon discovery that would be cool. OSA'ers with missing guns would have a better chance of getting them back.

What would be easiest (I think) would be for someone to volunteer (I don't suppose I would mind, unless somebody else wanted to) to make an excel spreadsheet, host it on the web...then link to it in a sticky. That way it could be updated easily and uploaded with the same filename and the link should stay valid as long as the file is on the web. Thoughts?

LEOs tell us if the info on the Excel sheet is what is needed. Do we need case #'s?

Totally, once we work out what all needs to be on there, just PM me whatever info you want in there, and I'll update it as necessary. If nothing else, I'll definitely put a notes field in there.

I would think you would need an actual case # and date and county filed in, this way ther would be no internet pirates putting in false info. or at least itd verifiable

Not a bad idea. For now I'm going to put in what I'm given. If fraud type stuff becomes a problem, obviously we'll have to see if there's an easy way to verify stuff, but I'm just going to pass the info I'm given along unless it becomes problematic.

Just curious as to a head count, how many here have guns stolen? I have never had a gun stolen thank God. Me being from New Mexico and all, we kinda keep an eye on our guns and cattle.

Here's an idea to prevent gun theft:

Don't publicly annouce that you have at least ten guns by decking your vehicle out with NRA decals or bragging about all the guns you own to everyone and anyone.

I worry about stolen weapons a lot. I think the idea of a database is great. I would also suggest that we post a message on this site with at least the type of weapon stolen. Those of us who do a lot of trading would then be alert to what has been ripped off. I suspect that stolen guns make it to market pretty quickly since the thieves are anxious to turn them into cash.

Posting the theft here would remind us all to check the database.

Getting the word on stolen weapons out is a real service to the shooting community.

FYI: The thread was started, a request was made to sticky it to no avail, but it can be searched. So far I have had one person PM me with stolen guns, and thay are in the thread i the spreadsheet. With the low responses, I didn't see any reason to push or beg for a sticky at this time.

Dear sig and rra,

First of all if you afriad to put an NRA sticker on your vehicle, because you may think that it marks you as a target for theft, then if you come to Muskogee, I will buy you a tin foil hat, if you currently don't own one.

I don't advertise to every person I meet that I own firearms. The suspects aren't even people I know or have talked to.
Have a Merry Christmas.

ok_patriot,

Please put me down for a tin foil hat also, if thats the criteria. I also don't put Glock stickers on my car for the same reason. Why advertise that you might have a gun in your car? When I go to the post office, do I want people to know that I had to leave my gun in the car? It makes sense to me to not put them on. I think we should leave it as a personal preference and not be so sarcastic about it.

oh and by the way, Have a Merry Christmas

Bulbboy,

I didn't mention glock stickers and can see your point, but most people on the street couldn't tell you what the NRA is or what they stand for. However almost every person who watches tv probably sees a glock at least 4-5 times a night if not more.
