*Disclaimer: IDPA is no substitute for self defense training*

I started out shooting IDPA with el-cheapo gear just to see if I would like it.
Guess what,I loved it!
After surveying the gear everyone used and contemplating the pros/cons I went out and bought the best and fastest Kydex gear available,IMO (Ready-Tactical)

Now I realize that IDPA is just a game and not like reality but I'm leaning toward using my everyday carry gear (the IDPA legal stuff) for matches.
I'm shooting high Sharpshooter(SSP) and I regularly end up scoring middle of the pack or a few better.Typically we have 35 shooters on average.
I'm not sure I would do much worse using my regular IWB carry gear and dressed in my normal attire rather than the obligatory 5-stitch riggers belt, kydex factory,5.11 pants/vest,and tac boots.

I realize that I will be slower but I'm really just doing it for fun anyways and not looking to seriously compete but I will still shoot all the matches I can.

I'm turning over a new leaf and trying to take it to a more realistic level.
I may even purposely take a few reloading proceedurals just for good measure. ;)

I figure it will at least get me more familiar with my new carry rig if nothing else.

Any thoughts?

I know we have at least one IDPA'er in here. ;)

Haven't shot IDPA yet but in my 3 gun shoots I used my leather Milt Sparks IWB rig.

I've started wearing an Instructors belt recently and probably would wear that now as my leather was getting beat up. I'll probably pick up a Kydex IWB as well only to save wear on my leather. I've used it for all my classes and its started showing some marks.

I would definatley wear my everyday clothes. Probably a polo tucked in then afterwards untuck to cover and leave.

On a similar note anytime I've shot 3-d archery I've used my hunting bow with hunting arrows. Lots of guys had high dollar target set-ups with 36" stabilizers but I just shot my little Diamond.

When I started IDPA I used my G27 and the gear that I carry every day. I try to shoot at least one match a year with it instead of my G17. It only makes sense. To heck with the scores.

I shot the match this weekend with my carry gear and it *definitely* slowed me down.
I don't think I'm going to switch back for a while though,if at all.
Since I'm just shooting for fun and to challenge myself,I'm happy.

The shortcomings of your carry gear are definitely magnified, though.

I don't know J.P., a little time with that rig and your times will get much better. You might do a little test if you have a timer and a little time at the range. Time yourself on the draw ans see just how much difference there is. I'll bet most of it can be made up just through dry fire drills. You shot a very respectable match for using a new rig.

New rig and new sights.
I just put the sights on Friday and one mag through it,quickly,at 7 yards.
I can definitely shoot a better match but I've not been to the range lately....I'm slippin'.
