Check was mailed on Thursday 12/21 around 3pm. I figured it would not arrive until around Wednesday due to the Holiday. However, the check cleared my bank account on 12/27.

Does the timing of the check cashing have any relation to the timing on the approvals? I'm excited to get my first stamp.:hyper:

The check cashing just means that your packet was received. I will then be sent to the NFA Branch in West Virginia where it will be entered into the system (this will be when it goes "pending").

Hope yours goes quickly. I had two checks clear may bank on 20 December so I am in the same waiting game you are right now. What are you getting if you don't mind my asking.

Not quite as exciting but the ATF charge hit my credit card a few days ago for my C&R FFL application.

As soon as I get it, I'll send off my app for a SBR and SBS. The SBR will be easy to build. The SBS will probably be a basic 870 with a 12in barrel. Any ideas where I can buy the barrel so I don't have to make my own?

We sure seem to think alike. I currently have a Rem 870 AOW with a 12.5" barrel (pic below) and plan on converting my regular 870 into an SBS just like you except I am going with a factory 14" Remington barrel. It will come out flush with the one shot mag extension that is currently on my gun. As far as finding a barrel, post a WTB ad on Subguns.com and Sturmgewehr.com and someone will contact you. Good luck.

ATF cashed my latest check back on the 11th. I'm hoping to get the paperwork back within a couple more weeks.

Does a 12in barrel sit flush with the mag tube or will I need a 12.5in ?

A 12" would be shorter than the cap on the mag tube. You would need a 12.5" to be flush with the cap. Look at the picture of my AOW in my post above and you can see how the 12.5" is flush with the cap on the mag tube.

is that grip more comfortable or easier to shoot than a standard pistol grip?

Yes, it is much more comfortable. A regular pistol grip really beats the web of your hand, but the "bird's head" grip seems to just push your whole hand back without any discomfort.

MidwayUSA has these for around $40 for the grip and forearm (see link).

Wlcharm, that SSS is pretty sharp looking :thumb: A "birdshead" grip would really tame that thing down.

sweet! I want one too! How many rounds does that hold? And can you hit anything with it?

Mag tube holds two rounds + one in chamber. Here is a link to the Serbu website.

I called NFA Branch today to check on my 2 Form 4's. They were received on 19 Dec 06 and approved yesterday (8 Jan 07). Now if they will just arrive at my dealer before the ice storm hits this weekend.

That's good to hear. My check cleared my bank on 12/27 (not sure what day they received it) so I should not be much further behind you.:contract:

Well, my form 4's showed up at the dealer today, but unfortunately the ice storm is preventing me from driving up to pick up my cans.:censored:

APPROVED!

27 days from mailbox to mailbox with 3 holidays in the middle. That's some quick service considering the time of year.
