AR pistol conversions?

Is it legal to register an AR pistol as a short barrel NFA so you can put a stock on it? Or is it simply impossible to do?

Yeah, submit a Form 1 with tax, get it approved, get it engraved, and put the stock on.

I believe RobC is correct.

There is a FAQ thread on AR15.com about AR pistols. It mentions being able to remove the pistol barrel, put on a normal stock, and then add a rifle barrel to temporarily convert it to a rifle. Reverse the steps to change it back to a pistol.

Forgive my ignorance RobC but what must be engraved and where can you get that done?

You have to engrave the manufacturer's name, city, and state (in this case it would be you). There are a bunch of places that can do it. I forget the names but there are a couple of threads about it.
