I recently joined the class 3 ranks (although I won't actually see my m16 for quite some time). I've also decided to pick up a couple of cans.

My question is this. My new preferred caliber is 40 s&w and would like to get a couple of 40cal cans.

Does anybody have any experience, advice or prefrrence for this particular Item.

Gem-tec and AAC are what I'm looking at now. My class3 guy prefers AAC but has no advice to give on 40cal.

Help would be appreciated.

I have an AAC M4-2000. I like it very much. I use it on my M16 as well as my .22-250 Remington 700.

I cant tell you about ether can but if it was me I would look at getting a 45 cal. can. That way down the line if you want to go bigger your can will work. Dont have to by a new can!!!!!

AAC m4-2000 faqs page says

"q: Can I shoot .22’s through the M4-2000?

a: No problem."

hope this helps.

ps. according to the Cyclone 308 AAC faq page. You can put 223 thru the 308 can. Doesn't say the the db reduction is though.

I've fired an M4-2000 on an M16 and was pleased with how it sounded. It's definitely on the top of my list for rifle suppressors.

However, it is not recommended that you shoot .22lr through anything besides a .22lr can. The idea being that soft lead and carbon buildup in the can from the .22s might obstruct the bore and cause a baffle strike when you fire a .223. A .223 can will get hot enough to melt lead leading to an obstructed bore.

I've never shot .40 from a .45 can but I've also never heard a .45 can that I was impressed with, granted, it has been a long time since I have shot a .45 can.

The problem with the bigger calibers is the size of the aperture of the can. The larger hole allows gases to escape more easily. AAC has a new .45 can that is supposed to be better but I will have to hear one to believe it.

Thanks for the info. I think I've seen some video of the new AAC 45 can.
