I recently purchased a Colt SP1 M16. (big hole lower)

http://www.davidspiwak.com/page%202.htm #38 up at the top.

Although I don't yet have it in my possession, I'm looking to pick up all the needed parts. (big hole offset pin)

Does anybody have any experience or preference when it comes to the adapting a big hole lower to accept modern .250 small hole uppers?

It seems there are several options to choose from and none strike me as being better then the others.

this is the look i'm going for.

While I have never used an adapter pin for a big hole lower, the Offset Pin that Bushmaster sells looks like the simplest way to go. Here is a link.

I have to say that if I bought an SP1 conversion, I would put some triangular handguards on it, a three prong flash suppressor, early, no trap door buttstock, and tape the cleaning rod to the stock.

I would apply the early colt grey paint that John Norrell makes, and find the trashiest of early surplus furniture. It would look like it had been carried by some 19 year old that was sent to vietnam rather than the county lockup by the local judge.

That would be so much cooler, not to mention less common, than the ubiquitous M4gery.

Sorry, daydream over.

Not a chance. He digs the non-practical, super tactical stuff.

Well, I can't say that what I described would be really practical, but what it lacks in tactility, it more than makes up for in class. Plus I like how A1s weigh nothing. My A2 Hbar weighs as much as my Garand.

I've never seen, read, or even heard of one offset pin being better or worse, but sadly I don't have a need for one. I would definitely slap A1 furniture on that to compliment that flat slip ring and the wonderful gray finish. As much as Rob wants to talk, I know he will collapse in a bout of exultant happiness when I tell him that I recently read that some units of the NG have authorized and are using the M5 RAS on their A2s. Finally you can have all of the blacktical accessories that you desire on your rifle.

A hilarious satirical puppet movie by Trey Parker and Matt Stone of Southpark fame.
