Seems you guys never talk about these. :pms2:

Picked this up yesterday and put 200 rds through it today. Shoots so good it's almost no fun.

Do all Sig 1911s have the external extractor?

Yes.

A quick review:

I've been looking around for a .45, and had pretty much made up my mind on a Sig P220. Was shopping on the internet, and came across some LEO/Military priced Sig's. They finally started that, instead of the doing the rebate thing. I had my eye on the Elite stainless, but they had none in stock. They did have the STX though. Also turned out they had a retail store and were ony 30 miles away.

I'm really not a 1911 guy, and I started reading up on the Sig 1911's when I ran across this one. Bottom line is that they initially had problems, but those have been worked out and most people are happy with theirs. I noticed this latest generation has started using some MIM parts (grip safety, thumb safety and mag release), which they apparently didn't use to do; but Sig advertises no MIM for the internals... A little play in the slide (maybe 1 or 2mm), and the lockup tight with no play. Trigger pull is a little heavy, but it breaks clean. Overtravel adjustment was on the money.

I field stripped it when I got it home Friday, cleaned and lubed it up. Took it to the range yesterday and ran 200 rounds through it without a hiccup. It's got great balance, and shoots better than I do. Grouping in the picture was at 15 yards (I pulled that one to the right... :teehee: ). At that range, you can shoot the x-ring out of a B-34 silhoutte without a whole lot of effort. This thing is like a laserbeam.

For a hair under a grand, I'm very pleased with this gun. Now I just gotta pick up some of these targets, so I'll be ready for the zombie apocalypse.

This will sound crazy, but DON'T clean your gun until you get about 700 rounds through it or until it won't cycle another round. What this will do is marry the slide to the receiver, the gunpowder and the solvent will act as sandpaper. Then when you clean it, it will feel like it's on ball-bearings. These are not my words but from what Les Baer told me when I called his factory and asked him a question.

I reckon that's good advice for match grade custom pistols, and I'll keep that in mind if I ever buy a Les Baer. The slide on this gun is plenty smooth.
