I use a cottontail probably 70% of the time. The sound you are using is a small part of getting a bobcat.

+100 to that. Seeing them is the hardest part in my opinion. I am convinced that they come in much more frequently than we kill them and never are seen. I have called and killed quite a few but they are very secretive and often just sit out there in the brush watching for a long long time and sometimes just walk off. The hard charging ones are pretty rare but it is great when they come.

Since the prices went down several years ago I just don't have any need to shoot them. They don't get my quail cause I don't have any quail anyway...Probably the prettiest animal in the woods in my opinion. I'd just as soon let em walk..

Not sure what the prices were when you were selling but they hit an all time high just a couple of years ago at one of the auctions. One cat went for over $300 and the average was somewhere around a $100. Not sure what they will be this year but I'm hearing they should be decent. Either way I respect anyone's decision to hunt or not hunt what they want as long as it's legal.

in 78-79 before Jimmy Carter signed an export ban on furs we were getting $500 for good cats dried and streched.
$60+ on good coons, 60-80 on good beavers.

up in Colo. they had 2 kinds of coyotes. we called them mountain and plains.
mountains had fur like a husky dog. super thick and long they would bring up to $500
plains coyotes same as ones in OK. would bring $100-200.

I miss those days on the trapline.

Mr ed this is what I was refering to. Back in the late 70's we could hunt one night and make enough to buy all our dog food for a year and have fun doing it. The last time I had any coon hides I finally almost gave them away and pretty well said I was finished. As far as the cats, my son and grandson both do lots of calling for cats or coyotes just like I did at one time. I kind of think the attitude I got comes with age and seeing things a little differently. Now instead of having a nice mess of young squirrels for supper I feed them sunflower seeds just so I can look at them. Instead of shooting the cats I just enjoy watching them if I'm hunting. My son keeps telling me that he's worried about me..Guess I'm just getting old..

That's the era I grew up learning how to trap in, you guys remember what the season limit on cats was then? My dad would pay for his Colorado elks hunts from his traplines.

Well I went yesterday and managed to call in one decent bobcat but it got away. Think I will wait until deer gun season ends to go back out.
