Since about the turn of the new year, I have seen a substantial increase in OKC motorcycle and cruisers, OHP motorcycle and cruiser, Sheriff's dept, and even unmarked SUV/cruisers (presumably OKC, OBN, or OHP) pulling people over on their way to work. The economy is bad enough, leave us alone LOL. A ticket did not spark this either; it has been a year since my last one. But I am noticing a real trend and am forced to drive like granny and be harassed by other drivers on the way to work. I know you guys are just doing your job, and "seem" to give 5-10mph grace so that is good.

But my rant is more complex. All these people out there are working hard and trying to get to work and are used as a revenue stream...meanwhile, the same officer that writes 100 tickets that day will speed himself in his personal car and get out of most if not all tickets. Not to mention all the cruisers I see speeding when not on the way to a call but just maybe doing 10-15mph over and burning more of my tax-payer gasoline. I am a law and order guy, but EVERYONE should be held to the same standard. Not trying to start trouble, I have several friends who are police officers and law enforcement elsewhere in my family.

I just don't like to see people being easy targets in this tough economy and then if they try to obey the speed limit, other drivers who never seem to get caught tailgate you and stress you out. I suppose the REAL issue is with the law makers...the law makes set ridiculous speed limits because they KNOW the difference between 60mph and 65mph speed limit is millions per year in revenue...meanwhile, those same do-gooder law makers would get let go if they get caught speeding in the zone they themselves helped set the speed limit in, because they are some state rep or city councilman...that is the kind of pitchfork and torch crap that goes on that upsets the avg joe...Those that control us don't have to play by the same rules...that is not real freedom. Okay rant over and I say all this respectfully because I have respect for the thin blue line generally speaking and glad they are on patrol, I just want an explanation why it is the way it is and why so many more on I-35 this year. Thanks!

It is okay to be an illegal immigrant in this country but not to speed 5-12mph over...ESPECIALLY north of Britton Road on 235...That stretch to Edmond should be 70mph in my opinion :) Are there any actual police officers here that AGREE with me on that piece of road?

Did I do wrong??? I meant no harm, just want commentary. I do not know it all for sure and I am man-enough to admit that. I looked back at it and it is a rant I guess...again, have deep RESPECT for law enforcement and the law...Every time I have ever been let go or given a break, I have said thanks for the leniency and I have zero points so I am not a problem driver with a chip on my shoulder. It was just an observation have made that there seem to be so many more people being pulled over and even in the rush to get to work and I wondered why. I guess my main beef is not the number of cops on I-35, but that I suffer from intimidation by other drivers because I go slower to avoid being pulled over, and that the speed limits seem to be set artificially low. For example, even off the HWY, you all know there are strips of road that are 35mph in the city, but should be 45mph...meanwhile Texas is giving an 85mph limit out in the boonies...I will brace for attack, but hopefully it will just be comments, opinions, and clarifications :)

IMO all highways should not have speed limits. Go as fast as you feel comfortable. In most areas where speed limits actually are needed, traffic usually dictates your speed anyway.

Where have you been the last 4 years. I-35/235 have always been crawling with OHP during morning traffic. I know where most of them like to hide and lurk at. The ones on motorcycles can be a sneaky bunch.

Honestly, I'm glad they're out there and forcing everyone to drive cautious. Nothing like having your whole morning blown because a bunch of jackasses wokeup late and are now zipping by everyone dangerously and cause a wreck. If you know anything about morning and evening rush traffic, 1 wreck can delay you back an hour if not longer.

That was the one thing that made me move out of Norman and into OKC. Dealing with the morning and evening rush traffic is a lot like getting punched in the balls. If there was a wreck, a 20-30 minute drive to work would turn into almost a 2 hour drive. In the winter, the drive home to Norman from North OKC was sometimes 3 hours long due to weather or wrecks + the rush hour traffic. I'm glad those days are over.

Also, last I checked, most OHP won't bother pulling you over unless you are 5mph over or greater than the speed limit. Once you hit about 8 or 9mph, then you're just basically taunting them. Most will just give you a warning anyways.

I agree with you Shooter. Yes state and local departments are hurting, we are a revenue stream. On the other hand did you know that over 70% of the officers on duty in the state of Oklahoma are un-paid? Yes they work for nothing.....

I35 is a major interstate where lot's of drugs get transported through Oklahoma, every stop is a potential probable cause. They are probably being paid for out of federal grant funding for the war on drugs/terror/illegal immigration.

Really 60 vs 65 on a cross town drive doesn't save that much in time. On a daily commute, just do the math.

I don't get bothered by the guy doing 5 under on the way to work anymore, it's a lot less expensive than 10 over the speed limit and it's time impact on an 8 mile commute is what 1.2 minutes... so I can leave a couple of minutes early drive the speed limit and not worry about a ticket or I can gain an entire extra 1.2 minutes before I have to leave the house for work and risk a $250 ticket.

My complaint is when we get outside of population centers. Ever made Tulsa to Hugo in under 2 hours, or Tulsa to New Orleans in 9.5hours? That's what I am talking about. The wife's GT sure does eat up the road.
