I think the hog problem can be resolved through scientific methods. One suggestion has been to distribute a "birth control" chemical that only hogs will consume. Another (scary) one is a designer disease.

With numbers what they are in OK, and with budgets being what they are, hunting and trapping won't do it. Helicopters are just too expensive.

This will eventually come to a head when grandpa and his favorite grandkid get eaten by hogs down at the pond. It'll happen. I am sure I am not the only one on this forum to have been charged by an unprovoked hog. Happily there was only one, and I saw him early.

The state is the de facto of wildlife whether it is a deer or a hog. Unless it is a "farm" operation, they can do what they want with them. They will not pay you when one of "their" deer totals your car in an accident though.

I don't think we'll ever completely eradicate them; their rate of reproduction is just too high. But I do think we could put a significant dent in them. Just outlaw the profession of selling hog hunts and take away the business incentive. I thought a bounty might be a good way to finish them off, but there's this phenomenon called The Cobra Effect which would lead to an even worse situation.

The term 'Cobra effect' stems from an anecdote set at the time of British rule of colonial India. The British government was concerned about the number of venomous cobra snakes. The Government therefore offered a reward for every dead snake. Initially this was a successful strategy as large numbers of snakes were killed for the reward. Eventually however the Indians began to breed cobras for the income.
When this was realized the reward was canceled, but the cobra breeders set the snakes free and the wild cobras consequently multiplied. The apparent solution for the problem made the situation even worse.[2][3]

BTW, there is a "Russian" boar on my wall that came from a ranch next to the farm I was deer hunting. Hogs, imported or otherwise, don't know about fence lines so the farmer gave us permission with one stipulation; if you see a hog you have to make a try for it. That one was replaced by 12+ that were seen with a sow which we didn't get.

Thats been a total failure by PETA. Its been tried, and failed a hundred times. Its just another way to stop hunting/shooting.

Think about it. If they could control them by drugs, could they not concivably contol the hunters?

Colorado tried to use a birth control method on the elk herd in Rocky Mountain National Park a few years ago. It cost thousands of dollers per cow, and never proved to be 100% effective, and was only partially effective for one to two years. Maybe hogs would respond differently, either way mucho $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

That is quite a bold statement there. Not one that I necessarily agree with either. We obviously live in different parts.
I agree - I've been hunting North-Central Oklahoma for over a decade now and I've seen lots of yotes but have yet to see a single hog... I also believe that under no circumstances should landowners ever be prohibited from hunting animals that destroy their property. I would be fine with temporarily outlawing For-Profit hunting of hogs to see if it has any effect at all but I doubt it would.

The hog hunting issue in Oklahoma is peculiar. I've hunted them in Texas before so I'm familiar with them and their signs and the territory they favor. I have yet to see any live hogs in Oklahoma and I've only seen sign once. There are no signs of hogs on land where I have permission to hunt and the place where I saw sign belonged to an anti-hunting landowner.

I've been looking for a place to hunt hogs for awhile. I've found a few people that have said "Come on down to my place and you can hunt all you want" but when I actually ask them about it they aren't so interested in allowing someone to hunt on their property. That says to me that the problem just hasn't gotten bad enough around here yet.

I have to admit, I'd be pretty tickled to get to hunt hogs on the land where I hunt but I know that they'll never move into the rocky Ozark hills of Eastern Oklahoma. I damn sure wouldn't release any for the purpose of hunting...
