ODWC sends me stuff ..
I have hooked some i can't turn in the arkansas river below lock 16 and one below eufaula dam.
And one many many years ago below overholser in the gar hole..Yes that story is true.
My dad has had 85lb braid took to the knot and broke off above eufaula dam.

His cousin had many take all the big test line from him while trying to start a cold natured boat..

He wised up and went with 15lb test, just to have all the length he needed....He landed some in the 40+ range with that.

This was when you had mono line or dacron, no thin braid like we have today...
I use spectra 65lb green...sure like the stuff.. 300 yard spools .. academy has it in that length.
I have some over 4 years old and still in service.

There was a guy a few years ago at a dam fishing and casting over everyone..tangling up many lines..
He was asked to stop it...he did not care!!!
I figured i would break him....
I let him tangle me , and tug of war was on...I won and cut his line and kept his tackle next to me for him to come get it..
He left the area..never seen him again

Saw a confrontation like that below Kaw dam like than once. Guy in a boat got tangled with a guy on the bank.

Guy on the bank let the boater reel his rig to the boat.

Boater cut his rig off, and dropped it into the boat, and proceeded to fish again.

Bank fisherman put an 8 oz lead sinker on his 12' amazon rod, and tried to punch holes in the side of the boat, or boater, which ever came first.

Boater left quickly. LOL!

Fishing stories and records like the ones that have been broken this year, and seeing the pics and stories of OSA members here, make me wish that I lived closer to water sometimes!!

Your not that far. Might have to get you into some fish.

Grew up fishing Oolagah, the Verdegris River, Grand, Birch, Hulah and dozens of Osage Co ponds. Moved west and used to do well at Salt Plains, even did well on saugeye there ( threw a lot back too before I realized that there wasn't a length limit there!!!!!)

Yeah, lots of great fishing around the Bartlesville area. Salt plains is pretty much dead now, although it might naturally come back over the years if the drought stops.
Getting into the sandbass on Kaw is pretty exciting right at dark when about 1/4 acre of water around you turns into a feeding frenzy.

Didn't know that about the Salt plains Saugeye. I've thrown many back myself.
