Detroit Residents Stunned!

Police in Detroit announced the discovery of an arms cache of 200 semi-automatic rifles with 25,000 rounds of ammunition, 200 pounds of heroin, 5 million in forged US banknotes and 25 trafficked prostitutes -- all in a semi-detached house behind the Public Library on Woodward Ave.

Local residents were stunned. A community spokesman said: "We're all shocked; we never knew we had a library."

My sister and Brother in Law drove through Detroit several years back. They said it was unlike anything they had ever seen. Except for a few people it was basically abandonded. Its just a matter of time until Detroit looks like Chernobyl. Of course without the deadly radiation levels. Just replace that with all the toxic waste from meth labs.

LOL. House for a dollar anyone?

But seriously, I just got back from 5 days in Detroit. Of course we didn't venture into the ghettos...I went out on my own to a grocery store and left the family safe in the hotel...and I saw enough to know those 'hoods weren't safe for the family.

The dowtown area is actually doing pretty well. It was safe, fairly clean and the businesses were doing brisk business. We ate some awesome Greek food, got to walk around the a movie set for Transformers 4 (filming soon) and everyone we met was friendly and polite (of course they were happy we were there spending money, LOL). The above ground mono-rail took us past a pretty epic library too, LOL.

I saw a documentary on the History Channel, I think, or maybe it was that Indie Channel ... anyway ... that talked about some folks in Detroit who were taking over abandoned lots, clearing them and planting gardens on them. Then they were selling the produce at farmer's markets. A lot of them had chickens (a BUNCH of chickens) and rabbits, too and would sell eggs or process the livestock and sell the meat. I thought it was pretty smart of them. They didn't want to move, couldn't find work, so they started their own little cottage industry. One older lady even had a John Deere tractor she drove from lot to lot (she had several lots in different neighborhoods IIRC).

I love Detroit. Its dirty, gritty, and full of hoodlums, but you can drive 100 on the freeway without fear. If you stay out of the real ghetto parts, it is pretty nice. Lots of clean, safe areas for white folk. There are areas where the white folk are murdered just entering though, so be safe. Dearborn is nice and the home of Ford.
