I'd rather have a bullet in front of me than frontal lobotomy. To paraphrase...
911 and wait for the shooter finish shooting or give a chance to stop it with an insider, an ounce of prevention, and all that.
I think it would take some special kind of mental training/conditioning to accept that you may have to shoot a child, even if they are threatening others.

There isn't any sort of training you can ever take to prepare you to kill someone.
