Trying to find a nice spot to take the family. Last time I went to Turner Falls area it was so packed with people I could hardly park let alone find a nice quite spot to camp. Maybe I was at the wrong area? Is there a better option in that area? It's not far from Shawnee so I can live with the drive.

Would love a quite camping spot with beautiful scenery and cool water. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Have you ever driven through or camped at the Chickasaw National Recreation Area in Sulphur? I have never camped there personally, but had a lot of people tell me they had a blast there. I've driven through it numerous times on 177. Pretty cool to see the bison in the pasture.

Chickasaw has nice hiking trails , but the swimming holes can get crowded and unsanitary, no showers either, and no alcoholic beverages. You can shower at Arbuckle, they have new shower houses. Lake Murray is nice too. Roman Nose has a really nice swimming pool when its open.

I camp all over that general area. I'd suggest going to Lake Arbuckle or Murray for the camping, and only visit Turner Falls if you want to go there.

I can't recommend anywhere in the turner falls park. Last time I was there it was very crowded, tons of people everywhere. Actually payed less staying in a little cabin near Davis then would have paying daily park fee for 4+ camping site fee.

Last time we went to Turner Falls a few years ago, it was really crowded. Noticed almost all car tags were from Texas, lol. We've camped at Sulphur and was OK,but it was 7 or 8 yrs ago.

We went to Turner Falls a couple years ago as well and it was very crowded. We camped up close to the top of the hill so the camping area wasn't too bad, no problems there and it has a nice view. We have also camped at Arbuckle Lake once, it was pretty nice and quiet, my daughter got a couple leaches from the water. We never made to Chickasaw to check it out. I've heard Murray is nice, but never been there.

I'd might agree with others on camping at Arbuckle or a cheaper cabin in the area and then checking the other places out during the day.
