Seems pretty serious this time. Thoughts?

Personally, I think we should just cut them loose as an independent country. Theyve got a **** ton of problems, and its going to cost us a lot to fix. their territorial government is incompetent and has spent themselves into the ground.

On top of that, most Puerto Ricans don't speak English and the last thing we need is two more Democrat senators.

Right now only around half of PR citizens have returned to the island so the U.S. govt has started a program for start-up businesses to take their businesses to PR by knocking the taxes for those businesses down to a pittance. A guy I know is trying to start up a veterans business on the west side of the island and asked if I want in or even go down there and run security. I'm going down in a few months once they get a few things set up to check it out. If enough of us go, we can flip how they vote and have a nice piece of land by the sea.

Just what we need, another leftist state. All this will do is cost us (U.S. taxpayers) a pile of money, plus give the left 2 more Senators.

There is no compelling reason to allow this. They offer us nothing except good soldiers in the military. There is no strategic value for us to have them as a state, crime is very high, debt is very high, democrats through and through. It has served them well with being democrat because of all the welfare and such.

When will the US stop being a welfare state? We do not have enough jobs for our own citizens let alone import both legal and illegal. I would like to see a moratorium on all immigration for 10 years. Then we can assimilate the immigrants we have now. With technology changing such as kiosk for checkout, ordering, self driving cars and semis, and more and more manufacturing being done by robots. These jobs will go away and not be filled by other jobs. We are at a point in history that the world has never been in. This is why universal income has been discussed and will I am sure be a thing in the future. So why would we want or need more immigrants? why would we want to water down and dilute any universal income to the masses?

they make a boat load of medicines there, human AND veterinarian my dog cant get the proper medicine she requires in order to live because of that hurricane and the fact that sh-itshow cant maintain their basic infrastructures.

Lived there in the early 60's. Beautiful place.....but I'm sure a lot has changed. Would not like to see them as a part of the Union.

I think it's the politicians in PR that want statehood so they can get more money to rob from (the mayor of San Juan is a democratic hog), the every day Puertorican dose not.
