Here's the reality, irrespective of the source of electricity, ERCOT has not kept up with the demand. All of these companies moving to Texas, lot's of new Colo Data Centers, significant population growth. They have done some really poor planning. You can blame the wind turbines, wouldn't matter if it was natural gas turbines, doesn't seem like they have the ability to project the demand and plan and source appropriately.

there is a limit to how much carbon they are allow to produce. this has put limits on generation as well as development. they have the ability to ramp up some more but if they produce to much carbon they are forced to buy a carbon credit at extra cost pay fines etc. getting permits to build or replace repair existing generation has been severely limited for a long time with the requirement to use produce purchase green energy.

Maybe if the system was designed so that if generation in one area is low, it can be brought in from other generation areas ... like if there was an interconnected series of power lines and stations. Like a grid or something. Like, maybe that would account for if renewables in one area not producing as much. States could be linked together so that if wind in Texas is too calm, then power could be stable.

Oh....wait. We have a system like that that those idiots don't want to be a part of. Guess it's their own problem. They should probably do something about it before their secessionist vote in 2023 or whatever they are trying for.
There are three electric grids that cover the 48 states. The east grid and the the west grid cover 47 of them. Texas has its own electric grid.

the fact the turbines turn at a fixed speed, and must be started, indicates to me they don't run on wind power at all.
This is not how turbines work. There is no motor to starter them. The blades can pitch to catch more or less wind. This is how they start and how they stay in the operating rpm range.
