We’re good friends but if we were in the same blind we might have spooked him off with all the wrestling for the rifle 😂
Yeah, my son pretty much said the same thing when I texted him this video.
I will explain my thought process. This buck has two of the three traits I want to see in a buck, and that’s width and mass. He lacks tine length though and is shy on points, but I don’t get hung up on the number of points. As I said before, I believe this buck to be 5, and in my experience on this place, bucks usually have their best racks at 6. I‘m hoping he can live and breed at least another year, and if he has the growth jump from 5 to 6 as he did from 4 to 5, he should be a sure enough wall hanger next year. :anyone:

I was able to connect this morning. The hunt really started last night. I was sitting on a trail when my daughter shot her buck 1/2 mile away. I could hear a heck of a fight deep in the trees that ended after dark. This morning, I decided I would go sit on the trail near where I heard the fight. At 8:20am, a single doe came out and crossed the trail. I continued to sit on the frosty ground but decided I wasn’t sitting past 9:00am. After not seeing anything else, I got up at 9:00 and started easing down the trail. After about 60 yds, I heard leaves crunching so I froze. I see a deer walk up on the opposite side of a little scrub oak and proceeded to thrash his antlers on the leaf covered tree. Still couldn’t see what deer it was...then he stepped out. At 30 ft! I realized it was one of my target bucks and I was able to shoulder the rifle before he realized I was there. The 178 gr ELD-X from the Remington 300 SAUM at 30 ft does a heck of a number on the heart.

I let this guy walk 3 years ago. Missed him at 300 yds last year. I guess he decided I wasn’t going to give up so decided to step out and get it over with. 24 1/2” spread.

Also, we gutted my daughter’s deer across the wheat field from the cabin where we could see the gut pile from the window. While I was hunting this morning, she texted and said there was a big coyote at the gut pile. She decided to use my Springfield Waypoint 308 that I had loaded with 178 gr ELD-X’s. The coyote was facing her so she put a shot into his chest and literally gutted him. I was 1/2 mile away and I heard the boom-WHOP! I have to say, those bullets hit hard!

7:15 this morning. RIA 1911 10mm at about 20 yards using Sig 180 jhp. Double lung shot. Ran about 75 yards and went down. Hit a rib on the right side. Still had enough punch to exit the left side. Biggest rack I have gotten to date. 8 or 9 point depending on how you count it.

Awesome shooting with the 10mm. I was just hoping to take a doe with mine at some point this year.

Thanks. This is the 4th deer that I have taken with the 10mm, the third buck. It will do the job for sure. The first two I used a Glock 40, last year a Glock 20 and then this year the RIA. All different barrel lengths, but the same ammo. I think the G40 put them down faster. Maybe the little extra oomph?
