there has to be a higher power involved. I decided to get my first AR the same way I do a lot of other things, the hard way. Bought a Spikes lower a couple of years ago and would pick up a part here and there, usually what was cheap and on sale. Well I finally finished it last week and took it out today to test fire. I had some doubts as the first round chambered required the use of the forward assist, but it then ran four full mags through it without a hiccup. That alone surprised me, since I had never put one together before, but what really blew my mind was that it shot exactly to point of aim at 50 yards, requiring no sight adjustment whatsoever. The sight I used was an old red dot that had been sitting around for a few years and I just threw it on to have an aiming point for function testing. Again, this is the first ever AR that I have built and I have to ask, is it pretty much the norm to put these together and have them just work flawlessly without some sort of tweaking or adjustment?

First of all, congrats on getting into building your own. Its pretty satisfying to go to the range and get positive results like you have.

I have a couple of red dots that have been on other guns, and then swapped. I've found that once they have been zeroed on other guns, they will be very close and require minimal adjustment.
All that being said, there are a lot of variables in getting a scope/reddot to swap like that.
I use a torque driver that accepts variable tips and always follow the manufacturers recommendations for torque when setting up an optic.

good looking rig. the AR platform is so simple that they usually run good straight off a build. however, i've had a couple fight me the whole way on the build bench and those take a little tweaking to get right.

Well I may have to build a few more if they go together this easy. Kinda makes everything else I've built look like a pain in the rump.

If the parts are machined correctly it's not really any different than taking a glock apart for cleaning then having it work properly after reassembly. They are made to be put together and work.
