Wow, you sure are antsy. Whenever I've won something off GB, it usually takes about 5-10 business days after I send off the payment, to when Patrick receives it. He's my transfer guy, and well worth the $10 he charges and his limited hours. Patience is a virtue!

Yeah, I probably am. But like I said, I'm new to all this. I take it that most people either already have an FFL they're familiar with or have been through the process before. Since I haven't, I'd prefer to have everything in order before sending off payment (as unnecessary as that may be). Going with someone else means I can drop by a storefront and get this taken care of in person, without wondering when they're going to have time to get back with me. I'll gladly pay an extra $10 for a little peace of mind.

And who knows...once this becomes old-hat for me, I might be perfectly happy with the pace of a good part-time FFL.

More importantly, what did you buy? :) I'm curious now.

Yeah, I'm torn on shooting it. It's never been fired, but guns are for shooting...and this one has unique recoil (semi-auto-revolver). The problem is that Mateba went out of business in like 2004, the designer died in 2008, and there were supposedly only around 1600 ever imported to the US. So I can only expect this gun to appreciate in value. Most of these I've seen on GB are going for about twice what I'm paying (even though I'm paying book value). I just don't know how much firing it may decrease its value.

I'm also looking for a Chiappa Rhino (last gun by the same designer). There are plenty of these, but none locally. I'm hoping maybe an owner of one will let me check it out (before I buy one), in exchange for checking out the Mateba. Since the Mateba is so rare and a bit of an investment, I don't mind buying one sight unseen. But I plan to shoot the Rhino, and they're not the cheapest.

EDIT: I've been told by a Mateba expert that they are so rare that shooting them a little doesn't hurt their value. So I'll be sure to give my impressions once I do.
