The lotto money is borrowed for other budget short falls. This is the flaw in most states lottery fund, the fact they can take from it.

Also the flaw in this sales tax ballot initiative, nothing to stop them from shifting current funding away when the new revenue starts coming in if it made it to the ballot and got approved.

robo calls are coming in for and against. vote NO on 779.
I also can't find okie's response to the lottery question above. The lottery funds are doled out on a as needed percentage basis. Edmond gets squat because they are considered in good shape. I agree with the smaller districts receiving money where and when needed but the lottery was set up with education not at the forefront...it was just used to pass it.

I'll vote no on the tax increase, but the notion that teachers are overpaid is crap. Teachers in Oklahoma are way underpaid for what they do. If you can read this, thank a teacher. I retired from working in Higher Ed here in Oklahoma a couple years ago. No way was I overpaid for my level of education and the level of responsibilities I had . But I'm not complaining; I did okay...it's the poor saps in the classrooms down at K-12 that are getting the short end of the stick here. One of the main problems IMO, is we have way too many School Districts in this State. Last I counted, we were up around 480, in a state with 77 counties. Fix that problem and suddenly plenty of money will be there. We don't need that many Superintendents, their staffs, etc. ONE per county, maybe be two for the big counties of Oklahoma and Tulsa. Nah, I'm not buying this crap that teachers are overpaid. Administrative staffs are.

A lot of people point to Detroit as an example of Democrat leadership running things into the ground. Hate to say it boys but here in Oklahoma we've been under Republican leadership for a long time and we don't look so hot either. We aren't Detroit, but education is just one example how how "conservatives" apparently don't know how to run things either. We will cut our nose off to spite our face any day of the week

The State never addresses the real problem--the whole system is top heavy! Too many school systems. A real need to consolidate and realign is required not more taxes. There are always a few discussions every session but too many legislator's family or good buddies are in these position. So guess what -- no cuts in these areas!!
It would be interesting to see the real income and expenses for our systems. For higher ed also. Also, through in leger sheets for all the colleges sports programs and coaches salaries. Lets then do some real comparisons. Then show us the comparisons with surrounding States. More taxes for education - no--we've been led down this road before.

Im pretty familiar with " Head Shed" salaries in education since I was one before retiring. So what is wrong with the salaries you have problems with?
