Might want to get a sharp Bowie knife and lay one up on a shelf somewhere. I've got a pistol in each bathroom and a shotgun in the walk in closet.

I'd suggest two pairs of electronic ear muffs--one for you and one for the missus. They can amplify sound until you shoot then protect your hearing.

I have muffs in each vehicle and a set in the house. I can just imaging getting boxed in by some road rage idiot that is beating on my windows, and seeing me slip on a set of muffs.
That might just be a tranquilizer and never have to show a gun.

Ear protectors are used when we're planning on shooting. I think at 3 am when I'm awakened by the alarm going off and the door crashing in, I'll grab the gun and light. I honestly can't envision taking the time to put on muffs in a home invasion....maybe I'm wrong on that, and I don't want to know...

I know it seems like a frivolous waste of time, but after the first shot in a close environment, you'll be be thankful you preserved your hearing. I've read a number of experts that have recommended donning ear protection when able before dealing with home defense situations.

How about a gun safe. You wont have any guns if you use a cabinet. All my guns are in safes except an AR, 870 pump, and one pistol in each room within easy reach. In addition, I will not open my door without a piece, and that is if I expect someone. If I am not expecting someone the door will not be answered. Around the courthouse I have seen too many home invasion cases. I also carry a neck knife at all times except when I am at court or in some govt. building.
