Usually I just memorize streets, but I find myself driving around a lot more. I'm hoping to buy a new GPS. hopefully with voice activation and turn by turn navigation.

I don't buy too many of these type of things and I just want it to work, but there are so many options and I don't know what's good.

Does anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks

If you have an iPhone, the google app for navigation is awesome. Don't know if its available for android, but I suspect it is.
It has voice commands, and if you have hearing aids with blue tooth capability, it will transmit the voice directions to them.
It has visual displays, or you can run it in the background with only voice commands telling you where to turn and in what directions.
Some like "Ways". If you into facebook and like to tell the world where you are and all the social media thing, you can use it. It does have some features that are helpful like someone can come on a speed trap and alert you to it before you get there, or if there is an accident the alternate route will be displayed.

What I said was "". If your into facebook and like to tell the world where you are and all the social media thing, you can use it"
I didn't say it was facebook, but it is a social media app where drivers can communicate with others while they should be paying attention to their driving.
I turn on google maps, Bluetooth it into the vehicle stereo system, and listen for the voice commands. Music plays normally, but the Google maps will override the music to give directions and then go back to music.
Test message alerts and phone alerts are muted while I'm driving down the road.
Old school for sure, but I'm not wandering all over the road using social media while driving.
Personally I'd like to see them do what my Tundra does. It will not allow a text message blue toothed to the information center to be seen unless it see's the truck at a standstill.
It will give a verbal report of the text, but nothing visual.

I use Google maps, I find it to be about 99 percent drama free. I have had a long time love affair with all Garmin gadgets in fact got a drawer full of their stuff. Had a Nuvi lie one too many times and tossed her on the street somewhere in Oklahoma City. A buddy brought another Nuvi along for ride to the Dallas airport. We saw a billboard for what promised to be a big pawnshop with a large selection of guns in Decature. He pushed in the pawnshop address and the darn thing took us to the Decature Police Department. While driving around the Police department I punched the address into my Android phone using Google maps and went to the pawnshop. My buddy unplugged his Garmin and sat it on the floorboard by his feet as he had heard about my Previous Garmin from my wife. Lying coon dogs and navigation devices...

I've got several high end Garmin GPS in both road and off-road versions .. which are useful for specific off-road needs like dirt bike or hiking ..

Google maps with iphone is what I use most of the time.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. i appreciate it.

I've been using the GPS on my phone for a while, but for some reason it just doesn't work. I have constant sattelite connection issues and because of that, it's pretty much worthless.

So i'm investing in a Garmin GPS device and hopefully i'll be able to travel around without the constant feeling of needing to chuck my phone out the car window.
