Maybe they couldn't agree on a date? After all, we mustn't lose sight of their inability to organize, nor communicate effectively.... Perhaps there's not anyone in charge??
I think they may have decided that gun control was an issue that wouldn't do them any good---look what it did for Billy Bubba Boink-Boink(he lost a lot in the '94 midterm elections over gun control).
