The vortex with the small objective lens is not good for low light situations.
They work great in competition or full light situations, but if your looking for that last few minutes of low light to get a shot off, you want a larger objective lens no matter who makes it.

Just inserted the tip into LVPOs for ARs myself.

Started with a Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6X. It's growing on me. It's not a precision optic but it's sub minute-of-man and very well built. The illuminated reticle helps in low light, and the glass is clear.

Cabellas has a vortex crossfire ii 1-4 on sale for $119 currently I'm thinking of grabbing. It's the vplex not the v brite.

On the ar why are the cantilever mounts more popular opposed to a regular set of rings, also with putting an optic on my rifle I guess the flip up iron sights have to get removed completely right?

The mount you are talking about is so the mount can be completely on the upper receiver (not the forearm) and yet sets the scope far enough forward you don't have to remove your flip-ups.

Wouldn't doing that mess with the eye relief by having the scope too far forward.

Nope...in some cases, you need the extended cantilever in order to maintain proper cheek weld and still see through the optic. If I went with a regular mount on my strike eagle, my head would have to be ridiculously far back on the stock.

BUIS still has to come off or be left on, in the down position on standby...scope would have to be removed in order to use them, hence QD mounts and/or 45 degree offset BUIS.
