around here rattling does not seem to work. but around halloween i have used the cans and had young bucks respond. i also know grunt tubes work around here for younger bucks. never had a mature buck respond... IMO most bucks around me have had it used on them and they associate it with humans..

I haven't been on this site lately, congrats to all who have killed and especially to those kids and their parents/grandparents who have gotten out and killed a deer. Took my 9-year-old out 3 times over youth season, deer did not cooperate, he had a chance on some pigs but they spooked before we could get a shot. We had a great time though despite the high winds and heat. He will get to go many more times come rifle season.

Deer movement last weekend was non-existent at my farms in Logan County so I headed out to a farm in Canadian County and killed this big nanny doe with the smoke pole about 7 pm Sunday night. 55 yard shot, took out the heart, not a drop of blood, found her about 60 yards away. Nice to get on the board. Going again this evening and Friday - Sunday next weekend. Good luck to all!

Neither of these has ever worked for me in my area. A grunt call will stop and buck in his tracks, he'll pause and look and then turn around and walk the other way.......time after time after time after time after time.

I know there are folks who grunt and rattle and claim success, but I question whether it is attributed to the grunting and rattling or something else unrelated.

I've tried both in east TX and NW OK and have never had a deer respond to either, but maybe I'm just doing it wrong.:anyone:

I rattled in a couple of young bucks a few years ago. And, like Okie said, I have stopped them with a grunt call (momentarily) but never had one come in to a grunt.

I've had very good success with it....... In Kansas where the buck to doe ratio is without question better than most parts of OK.

I've had limited success in Oklahoma with it. I acquired permission to hunt a place this season that I feel like has a decent sex ratio. So I have a high hope for deer reacting to calls and the decoy on this ranch. We will see.
