Guys I need your help,

About 2 years ago My father (60 years old) lost his business that he ran for over 20 years. He since then was living with his fiancé in Edmond. He got a job at one of the local Ford dealerships to keep his head above water. Now, he and his fiancé broke up, forcing him out of the home. She told him that he needs to be out by the end of the weekend. I need to help him find a place to live quickly. To complicate things more, he only makes about $2000-$2200 per month before taxes, so affordable is key while needing to avoid high-crime areas. Can you guys recommend some reasonable ideas here? I really appreciate your time.

You can find a room to rent out on the internet pretty decently. I've seen 300-400 month to rent out a room all utilities included from some people with an extra room they want to rent out. If he'd prefer to live alone, There are some ~500-600 dollar a month rental apartments down danforth, when i was living in Edmond. Of course, nothing under the 750-850 dollar range for a studio/1 bedroom apartment is going to be in the greatest of areas by the nature of the cost. Of course, if he moves outside of Edmond, he can find housing much cheaper and in a better area.

Also, She can't tell him he has to move out by the end of the weekend. How long as he lived there? If he's a legal resident, she'd have to get a 30 day eviction notice. After that (written) notice, she can file for an eviction detainer with the local PD. I'd get advice from a lawyer specializing in that area of law. Did he pay or help pay for rent or utilities while he lived there?

You have to call the Sheriff's office not the local PD

i defer to your experience and knowledge.

Perhaps you are more familiar with the eviction law regarding non-leased residents in the State of Oklahoma and could elaborate on that a bit more than i can?

Expecting him to move out "by the end of the weekend" is not reasonable. He needs to have time to find a place to stay and getting a new place before the end of the weekend is ridiculous. Most places aren't open on the weekends as far as i'm aware and it can take time to move all your stuff and arrange things.

If i were him, i'd get in touch with a lawyer that specializes in this sort of thing.

I found a list here; https://lawyers.law.cornell.edu/lawyers/landlordtenant/oklahoma/edmond There are no doubt other resources on the internet for these sorts of things.

Maybe he can just talk it out with her and reach a more reasonable time frame.

It's kind of BS if he's been living there a long time as her 'fiancee' and then when they break up she gives him 'until the end of the weekend' to move out without appropriate notice.

I'd look over these screening for good ratings, decent prices, i'd check the area with Neighborhood scout to see if it's a bad area or not. I'd also see how far it is from his place of employment depending on his mode of transportation.

I'd avoid Bryant Grove if i were you, i used to live not that far from there and the place has a pretty bad reputation. But pretty much any cheaper apartment in the OKC area is going to be crime-prone. you get what you pay for as far as location. If you go to a smaller town outside Edmond/OKC and you're willing to commute, you'll get a better area and prices.

If he has paid any type of rent or bill he his considered a tenant even if he is not on the lease. If that is the case she must give him written notice, by certified mail (the best way to do it) that he is being evicted. He can contact the Oklahoma County Sheriffs office 713-1000 and ask for the Civil Divison and they can answer a few question for him.

Even if he did not pay any type of rent or bill, he could still have to be legally evicted if he is legally resident there. to my understanding.

For that budget, I would recommend looking around the Fretz Ave. area. Also, Meadow Lakes, Kelley Park and some of the older neighborhoods would be able to be affordable. Possibly around the UCO campus too. If he gets in a real bind, have him reach out to the Edmond Hope Center. They do amazing things to help others in need in Edmond.

Thanks for your responses guys. He did contribute to the home and lived there for a hear and a half or better. He certainly has tenant rights. That being said, being in a home you are not welcome is can bring all kinds of other legal troubles. I agree, her deadline is meaningless but he certainly needs to get somewhere. Talking to him I do believe $550-$675 is possible for him. I've looked online and found some places, it's just really difficult to know if the different places are in bad neighborhoods. He won't be living the high life, just don't want everything that isn't bolted down to get stolen or his door to be kicked in.
