Not sure why everyone needs BUIS. You guys getting inserted really deep into enemy territory for extended patrols/recon? I use good optics and if my optic screws up, I'll go back to the house and swap it or grab another rifle.

They would have came in handy last Saturday at 3 gun match when my red dot went out after the first shot.

The OP didn't specify that they were for backup.

Does anyone run a thinner post the standard milspec diameter in their iron sights? I used iron sights during AR-15 Level 1 from TDSA and several times thought to myself that a thinner front post would be an advantage in certain situations.

I have Troy's and Magpul MBUS Pro's on my personal rifles and Magpul MBUS's on my duty rifle. At the end of the day they do the same thing. It's really up to your preference. I've seen other sights lost parts, zero, etc. I've never had a problem with Troy's or Magpul. I also used to run Daniel Defense fixed sights and they were built well and held up to duty use.

A drill - or even small rat tail file - can solve the aperture issue.
