While there many places you can hunt these behind a fence like so many exotics Texas has a large wild free ranging population.
This individual was a free ranging animal taken in west Texas out near Ozona. Those ranches out in west Texas are home to some of the largest wild aoudad in the...
Got my aoudad mount back today. Think he came out pretty good. Said I would never shoulder mount one and then ended up shooting this free range monster and kinda had to. 😆
No luck this morning. Only heard one gobble way off. Wind was blowing so hard I sat out the afternoon and didn’t go back out till about 530. This guy showed up with 6 other gobblers. Biggest group of birds I’ve seen in years. Nice to see that many.
Noticed they moved all the Wichita NWR elk hunts except one to walk in only! Makes it tough for people to get drawn that can’t physically pack out an animal on their own!
While the license is cheaper access to land in Texas is much more expensive. Thus the reason all the Texans come up here to lease. (Some like yourself even buy)
In my 20+ years of marriage we’ve only ever taken one whole deer to the processor. Typically my wife and I do them all. That was about 5 years ago.
It was a large buck my wife shot and we got back enough backstrap for a small doe. She was HOT! She said never again and we’ve never done...
Yea I’ll admit teal are amazing and maybe my favorite duck to eat they are almost like a large dove honestly.
Crows…ever eaten one? I have and honestly I liked it better than duck. LOL. Never had the pleasure of eating a gull though. You?
Hooded mergansers taste just fine IMO
Common mergansers are not meant for human consumption. I’ve tried several times and they are nothing but dog food.
The common merganser is the only duck I have not been able to make palatable.
I killed one goldeneye and one mallard this morning so I did an experiment this evening.
Plucked the birds and breasted them out but left the plucked skin on.
Then seasoned them and grilled them to medium rare. I kept track of which bird was which but neither my wife nor I could taste a...
Yea as mentioned get behind the cow and sneak up on your target. Also as mentioned low wind days are a must.
For geese it works best early in the morning with the sun at your back so they are staring at a moving blob they can’t really make out due to the sun.
You get all the variables just...
Something that fits you well and feels good to the shooter who is shooting and handling it.
I highly recommend, if possible, going and actually shooting the bows you are interested in. Any archery shop will allow you to test shoot crossbows before you purchase.
IMO speed is overrated so DO...
Two words…Wicked Ridge
They can be had for under $500 and made in the USA. (In fact in the same Ohio factory as TenPoints because they are owned by Tenpoint)
I imagine most of us have shot deer with the old 50 or 54 caliber conical muzzleloaders back before the inlines got popular. That’s easily my biggest and slowest.
Pure energy would be a 375 H&H mag for me but they aren’t “big and slow”. lol
I prefer TenPoints at that price point. Family owned and from what I’ve seen better customer service.
Ravin was purchased by velocity several years ago which is a corporation that owns several companies/brands such as center point, Benjamin, and crosman
I believe Tenpoint has one shooting...
We were the first to keep sheep on this lease as well. God only knows how many they have shot over there years. I was like...Really? All this time and NOBODY has ever tried one?? Thats crazy to me.
Agreed tough meat. I'm gonna grind my hinds all into burger. With the flavor it has I think...
