On larger deer there is some meat on the ribs but I'm not trying to save it. The round I used went just behind the shoulder in the ribs and still managed to trash a good portion of both shoulders.
Yeah I've thought about backing off the loads. 1) the rifle is semi auto so I need to make sure it functions with the light loads, 2) not sure I want to give up the flat trajectory (I know I'm wanting to have my cake and eat it too)
For now I'm planning on neck shots at close ranges.
I've just started using a 300 Win Mag a few years ago. Until opening day this year all shots had been over 100 yards.
I shot the largest bodied buck I've ever killed using 165gr Hornady Interlocks with a muzzel velocity of around 3100fps. I hit the buck at 30 yards text book behind the...

I'm ready to get my TC White Mt Carbine 50cal out and launch a 405gr hunk of lead at a monster buck.
The Knight DISC will probably sit in the safe unless my son takes it. There just something I like about the simple 21in TC cap and slug set up.
Outstanding work getting those young men and women out in the woods!!!! Looks like a great time. I know there is a lot that goes into that. Thank you for getting these youngsters out there.
Terry's does good on the processing but is expensive. I won't let him handle another mount though. For the cost of processing two deer you can get a decent grinder and diy it. I got one two years ago and haven't looked back.
I don't have any experience with the Taurus, but I love my cw380. I have about 350 rounds through it. It goes with me everywhere. Felt recoil is much less than the LCP, it has decent sights, and it is accurate.
