300 Win Mag Load for Deer

On larger deer there is some meat on the ribs but I'm not trying to save it. The round I used went just behind the shoulder in the ribs and still managed to trash a good portion of both shoulders.

300 Win Mag Load for Deer

Thanks for all the feedback. I think I'm going to go with the 180gr barnes and see if I can get them to group in my rifle.

300 Win Mag Load for Deer

Yeah I've thought about backing off the loads. 1) the rifle is semi auto so I need to make sure it functions with the light loads, 2) not sure I want to give up the flat trajectory (I know I'm wanting to have my cake and eat it too) For now I'm planning on neck shots at close ranges.

300 Win Mag Load for Deer

I've just started using a 300 Win Mag a few years ago. Until opening day this year all shots had been over 100 yards. I shot the largest bodied buck I've ever killed using 165gr Hornady Interlocks with a muzzel velocity of around 3100fps. I hit the buck at 30 yards text book behind the...

    Deer Attractants

Thanks for the info. I have looked for ways to supplement corn to provide deer with better nutrition. I have tried using 14% protein horse feed but the deer didn't seem crazy about it. I may have to look into this.

    Cleaning the sidelock

I use the bucket of soapy water as mentioned above, run a few patches through to dry it out and then apply a coat of bore butter to protect it. You just have to make sure you use some BP solvent and clean out the bore butter before use because it can foul the powder.

    Muzzle loader starts this weekend.

I'm ready to get my TC White Mt Carbine 50cal out and launch a 405gr hunk of lead at a monster buck. The Knight DISC will probably sit in the safe unless my son takes it. There just something I like about the simple 21in TC cap and slug set up.

    Deer Processing

Terry's does good on the processing but is expensive. I won't let him handle another mount though. For the cost of processing two deer you can get a decent grinder and diy it. I got one two years ago and haven't looked back.

    Kahr cw380 or Taurus TCP

I don't have any experience with the Taurus, but I love my cw380. I have about 350 rounds through it. It goes with me everywhere. Felt recoil is much less than the LCP, it has decent sights, and it is accurate.
