Also, the adjustable gas key…basically, where the blowback tube curves downward toward the BCG, there’s just a tapped hole there and you can adjust a set screw to reduce the amount of gas passing through. Then you actually use a second set screw to lock the one doing the opening and closing into...
I really don’t want to modify the gun, at least until after I get the suppressor and test the perfomance. If there’s still an issue at that point, and I can’t correct it with an adjustable gas block/gas key, or change my loads to make it run smooth, then I MIGHT consider it. The thought of...
I did just put an adjustable gas key on my 10.5” 5.56 pistol but I have yet to try it out or mess with tuning it. I like the idea of the gas key being adjustable rather than the block, just because it’s so much easier to adjust. However, I don’t know how it’ll compare to an adjustable gas block...
I’ve heard a lot of people run standard 5.56 pmags, but I like the idea of having visibly different mags for my 5.56 guns and my 300BO. PMAG makes a 300 BLK-specific mag, but there is a company called lancer that supposedly has really nice mags that are easily distinguishable from pmags.
I do...
It’s starting to sound like you’re right. In the future I plan on shooting custom loads, but I’m not ready to load up a bunch of rounds yet and just want something commercial, preferably subsonic (this is a home defense gun, and I’d rather have the stopping power of a sub than the penetration of...
Gun has better lube now, but I only have one dedicated 300 BLK mag (PMAG that came with the gun). I tried loading a regular 5.56 pmag with the 300 BLK but it did not go smoothly (a bunch of my pmags are 10+ years old and may be gen2 🤷♂️), and based on how the unloaded I don’t believe they...
And if I just need more pressure, the solution is OBVIOUS! Time to buy a can.
Although in reality, I don’t know if that filler is gonna just clog up a can. The one I’m planning on buying is not able to be disassembled for cleaning and I don’t know how I could ever get that filler out of it...
I contacted Hornady CS and sent them the pic, this was their reply:
“Nick, In some cases with the Sub-Sonic loadings we have to use inert powders as case fillers to keep the powder uniform and allow it to ignite correctly. If you are running a suppressor on the firearm this will sometimes be...
The 7” PDW is supposed to be able to reliably run both subs and supers, suppressed and unsuppressed. Before I get disappointed in a $2500 AR, I’m going to test some other brands of ammo and see what kind of results I get…I can also get a handful of reloads from my FFL to try out.
I can tell you already that the gun is gonna be dirty though. It’s my primary home defense gun so it got a fresh mag put in as soon as I got home. Hit the bolt release and it failed to fully seat, had to use the forward assist.
I guess it’s time to get to cleaning 😂
Yeah I’m pretty sure the PDW only comes in 300 BLK. I just went to the range a bit ago and haven’t stripped and cleaned the gun yet. I’ll look for unburnt powder. I’d be interested to run some 125gr supers through it to see if it runs it better, but I plan on getting a can for mine so I’ll be...
Great write up, thanks! I have a S&W 29-2 from 1963 that’s barely been shot, and I’m sure it hasn’t ever been fully taken down. I’m going to use this for reference, but I’m not feeling brave enough to go through all that today haha.
