    Which gun for hog hunting....

I voted for the Roberts because I really like that round. But hogs are not that hard to kill I have a good friend who stacks them up with a 223. I have killed a boat load with everything from a 22 mag to a 45/70. Get a gun you like in a caliber you like and get to killing them oinkers. Pat

    Telescopic stock for youth

I have 4 grand kids in assorted sizes:D So I mounted a Tapco 6 position stock on their Ruger 10 22 so far it has worked out very well. It also adds that extra cool factor and it has the kids wanting to shoot more often. Pat

    Self Defense Shotgun

Right There are chokes made for firing slugs as a general rule slugs work best from the more open choke. Although I wouldn't recommend putting a slug through and extra full or Turkey choke. Firing a slug through a full choke will not burst the barrel or blowup a gun that is in good safe...

    Stock bleaching

You can take the oven cleaner method a step further by actually using bleach afterward .Bleach will not only lighten the color but can also be used to open the grain on some very dense wood so that it will take stain. I knew an old gunsmith that used a lye concoction to bleach out the stocks. Pat

what are you using for coyotes (gun)

It's not that the .270 couldn't be a viable competitor. Two things that kept it out of competition at Camp Perry. 1. It never was a military round. That in it self wont disqualify it but, military status would have put it in the mix. 2. Bullet weight, The heavy in this caliber is the 150 gr .277...

    What's your favorite rifle?

Southern long rifles have always been my favorite, art like beauty simplicity in form and function. I let my let my .36 get away and I miss her badly. But there is a new pile of parts slowly growing on my work bench. I'll post pics when she's finished. Pat

Remington 770. What do you know?

I haven't had a chance to handle the 770 yet. I have gave the 710 in 243 a good work out. The 770 is basically an updated version the 710. Accuracy wise it is a Remington what can I say it shot very well right out of the box. All 3 shot groups were with factory ammo and produced sub MOA groups...

Crazy idea: Shorten a Marlin 60 barrel to 16"

I did this mod years ago. Then I let a dang coon hunting buddy of mine con me into selling it to him. Man shouldn't be out any money for parts on this if he is handy with basic tools. I did the complete job myself with just hand tools the only part I bought was a saddle ring from Numrich. It...

A friend of mine brought me his Taurus PT 24/7 Pro in 45 acp. His complaint it shoots extremely low. We discussed fileing down the front site but from just rough calculations it would make the post very short. Is there an elevation adjustable rear site available for the Taurus? Pat

Next question for bolt action owners

It's interesting that so many think of the recoil reduction aspect of a break as an accuracy enhancement. I've not seen many bench guns with breaks on them. Which leads me to believe that there is no accuracy benefits to having the break. For my take the break works well on auto loaders to help...
