Good point on the stock, Rob72.
It looks like I'm going go with:
Hogue synthetic stock & forend

Mossberg 18.5" barrel

I have a 28" Remington 870 Wingmaster. I'd like to turn it into something less Field & Stream and more home defense. I'm thinking an 18" barrel and a collapsible stock should do the trick.
Do you have any suggestions on places to shop for parts online?
I've acquired a 30+ year old Remington 870 Wingmaster. It hasn't been fired in roughly 20 years. Luckily, it's been kept in a good case all those years, so it's still relatively clean, just dry.
The forend and bolt are pretty loose, which concerns me. If you hold the gun with the barrel...
I've been contemplating the same thing. I have an XD now, but I think I'd be more comfortable with a manual safety since I don't have a whole lot of defensive shooting training. All of my research has lead me to the Taurus Millennium pistols as H&K guns are out of my price range.
After reading what's involved in building the upper, I think I'll just buy a complete upper. Another member recommended RRA for complete uppers. Their mid-length A2 is $540 with the chrome-lined barrel. Any other manufacturers I should look at?
I'd like to keep it under $500. Is that possible without having a piece of crap?
What's the shortest barrel/overall length allowed by law?
Looks like I'm stuck with an A2 upper due to budget?
After looking at complete rifles, I've decided that I'd like to build my own AR...on a budget. I got the go-ahead from the boss (wife), so I've started doing research. There are so many options out there that my head is spinning. I need help.
I'm not looking to build an extreme, war-fighting...
