I had Preston at Surgeon build me a Surgeon 7 WSM.
YOu could build one on a LA to feed the 180 berger at 3150. Barrel life is around 1,400 rounds.
I slowed my 7 WSM down to 2950 fps with the 162 Amax (close to same velocity as .284) and I should get aprox. 2,500 rounds out of the barrel.
I...
Keep the 591 and build a 308.
Down the road send your barreled action to your gunsmith and have him chamber you a 6.5x47, 260, .243 or 6.5 Creedmoor. You can switch the barrels out in ten mins while keeping the same stock and scope.
Barrel and barrel work $600
AICS stock $900
Bed the rear...
Try Hornady TAP 168gr or Federal 168gr match ammo.
If it will not shoot under 1" at 100 yards it could be a rifle/optic/ammo problem or the shooter.
I have a GAP AR10 that will shoot under 1/2" consistently. I will sometimes loan it out and most guys can only shoot a 3/4"-1" groups with it...
I have the SR-25 MK11 in .308 with a lightweight 20" match barrel. Its effective range is 800-900 yards.
Its very heavy and if you were to carry it all day you would be hard pressed to carry an extra 120 rounds. It wouldn't serve any QCB role other than extreme/over penetration.
I also have...
SS rounds are usually from contact to 150-200 yards max on the 7.62 platform.
They are "mission specific" type tools.
I know a few guys that run the MK11 and have used SS rounds for allot of different hard/soft targets.
My dope for my SS rounds is +12.5 MOA at 100 yards and will hold minute...
I have the NF 5.5-22x50 MOA/MOA scope that I will be changing over to a NF FF in the near future.
Let me know before you buy a scope and I just may have one that will fit your budget.
I have the NF 5.5-22x50 R1 MOA/MOA. I am in the process of switching all my scopes over to the NF FF.
Let me know before you buy a scope and I might have one for sale that may fit your budget.
We had a great time!
I wish the weather had been better but we decided what the hell.
You guys were great and I really appreciate how easy the day went by.
We will try to schedule another class in late March or early May for the guys that couldn't make it.
I want to thank Red Castle for letting us shoot this class next Monday. If any of you are not yet members I would highly recommend joining the club. I believe that the initial dues are $290 and aprox. $90 yearly thereafter. Which is a great price for one of the nicest clubs in the Midwest...
The 6.5 Grendel is a very versatile weapon system that will be a great long range semi with low recoil and built on a great platform.
I think we may have two spots left. (Ez Bake is GTG)
If you don't mind PM'ing me and letting me know if you are able to make it I will put you on the list...
The PRI latch is my favorite. They sell these individually from their charging handle for around $15
The Badger seemed too big and was always snagging on my gear.
Jeese, Thanks for posting this for me.
A buddy and I have a few guys that are interested in shooting long range and have asked us to help with fundamentals and get them dope out to 600+ yards. We originally started with a 2-3 guys and I think we are up to 7-8now and would prefer to keep it...
