None worth trying in oklahoma I had the same itch a couple years ago your best bet is to research where there is still plenty(west coast, nevada I believe etc) and plan a trip and hope you get lucky. Alaska too.

I was watching to gold mining show on the Outdoor channel this morning and the show was talking about gold mining in Oklahoma. They talked about some caves by Muskogee. Went with a group around OKC in the Arkansas River. And a couple of other places. Might try to find that show online.

When I think of Arkansas, I think of the panning for diamonds at Crater of Diamonds State park. Went there as a kid.

We pan when we are in the Rockies. There is places around Rogers and Fayetteville. We are planning on taking the kids during fall break, for a weekend. We will take the panning gear and the metal detector.

on 69 hiway between Chouteau and Wagner there is a couple volcanic vents (funny looking hills) on the east side of the road. 30 years ago a geologist friend told me those would be a good place to look.
the people that owned it wouldn't give permission back then. don't know about today.
if theres a creek running from them, might try permission from a neighbor.

I use to pan in Colorado. There should be maps on mining in Oklahoma. These will
show if there is any and where it has been found.

Take a metal detector, especially one that is water proof...you'll want to search creek
    and river edges.

In Colorado, the old timers told me ...1st. Pan in a bend of the river.
2nd. Look for black to dark sand...don't know why.
3rd.Unless there is an enormous amoumt, get ready to spend a lot of time for very
    little to nothing.

When I first tried tbis in Colorado, I thought I was a billionaire!!! Those pretty
yellow nuggets, blinded my scientific judgement. At the end of the day I had
half a Wal-Mart sack full of nuggets and was thinking where to build my
mansion in Telluride. Sitting on the river bank I started to take a closer look
and this is where my "science"judgememt took over. I knew,by closer
examination this wasn't real gold...but Iron Pyrite...fool's gold.

    Arrow heads.....as a kid I took a 5 gallon bucket to a cousins house in S.E. Missouri
and could fill it up. Especially after the field was plowed.

In Colorado, I could find pottery shards and a few other items...but my cousins
would throw a fit every time I found stuff. They made me swear not to tell
anyone where I found that stuff. They didn't want their farms confiscated and
    turned into a national park.

    Good luck and have fun.

Seriously it's pathetic. If I had to choose between being you or being a mall ninja....mall ninja would win. At least then I wouldn't hate myself.

The results were better than some other places they have been. Bring your gold pan and give it a try. These guys have meetings at our camp several times a year. They love to show greenhorns how to find gold so come and try it. Watch the Event Calendar for schedule. We have gold panning kits for sale. Have a look at these pictures made right at the camp. I also read some reports about Tillman and adjacent counties, but haven't confirmed anyone actually has found gold there.
I don't know that she was as into it as I was, but I thought it was great.

I am wondering is there any restriction and rules about metal detecting and gold prospecting. Any suggestion on how to get permission for it?
