Question Brock's Guns near Ft Sill Apache Gate (SR 49) - anyone have info?

    Hello,

I usually use the Ft Sill Apache Gate which fronts onto Hwy 49 to Medicine Park - right outside the gate and just a short distance West (toward Medicine Park) there is a small closed shop on the north side of Hwy 49.
Last week or maybe two weeks ago a sign went up saying "Brock's Guns Coming Soon" - I have noticed no other changes to the outside (including old paint job and store logo) or to what is visible of the inside.
Does anyone have more info on Brock's Guns?
I am always enthusiastic about the potential for a new gun store.

    VR,

    Mugsy

No, but you got me interested! I'll be keeping an eye on the place for sure! BTW, I don't go through post because I can't go through post with a gun anymore, since 9/11; also, I'm not Civil Service anymore, so I don't even have a sticker, so I have to get signed-in most of the time. So, I take the I-44 Route to get to the Lake/Mountains.

Havent been that way in a while ,ill have to check.
They dont have stickers to get on Ft.Sill anymore...or theyre phasing them out...but you still cant carry a gun there.
Even if your in the military!!??
Unless you register it ..but then you can only go to the shooting range.
Is it right next to the little jewelry store?
The gun is just an easier way to gouge out your attackers eyes....notasniper
So I showed him what you said and he called shananigans on you.

It isn't near, it is the little jewelry store. The jewelry store has gone T.U. and now there is a hand painted sign over the building saying "Brock Guns coming soon"

Oh, and yes you may not bring a weapon onto Ft Sill unless you are heading to the personally owned weapon range or the skeet & trap range and then only if the weapons are registered. Oddly enough, guests of military/civilians assigned to Ft Sill can bring weapons to go to the ranges without them being registered - one has to be with an ID card holder and declare the weapon and intent to go to the range directly.

I hunt Fort Sill every weekend and I would be more than happy to dispel any bad info.Mugsy is partially right.
You CAN have weapons on Fort Sill for the following reasons:
    1. Target Shooting on the POV Range. (Rifles, Shotguns and Handguns).
    2. Hunting Weapons are dependent on the season.
*You CAN have a handgun for hunting ONLY during a season where muzzle loader or. 22 is authorized.
For instance a ML pistol in ML season, or a .22 pistol in .22 Compartment during Small Game season.
    3. No loaded or concealed weapons should ever be broght on post. It is an automatic federal felony if caught.
    4. Ammunition must be stored in a seperate container than weapon, out of the drivers reach. Some of the gate guards enforce this to the letter of the law and regulation.

Any civilian, retiree or active duty military MUST register any weapon to be used on Fort Sill.
This DOES NOT include Archery Except Crossbows. Which still are not authorized unless you are handicap.Mark and Glen do not care what the state regulation is.

Mugsy is right, Visitors that are going to Hunt or Target Practice on Fort Sill
must be sponsored by a civilian, retiree or active duty. The sponsor is responsible for the actions of the guest. So be careful who you invite. These visitors are not required to have their weapons registered. However, do not be suprised if the gates guards pull you out and check the weapons serial numbers. This has only happened to me once in 5 years.

Good review of the rules, and also why I don't shoot there anymore. Too much of a PITA. Archery Elk and Deer seasons are worth it though. For me, Tri City club range is about 9 miles closer (opposite direction) and way more accomidating to range shooters.

Don't forget the mind numbing range safety class and potential to really screw up if unable to read a map accurately.

    APeterson,

Thanks for adding the hunter related info - I don't hunt and completely overlooked that stuff.
The personally owned weapons (POW) Range isn't too bad but on sunny summer days it can be amazingly hot since it is completely devoid of any cover.

Absolutely correct Mugsy. I apologize as I misspelled (POW).
You can always put a work order in for a canopy or shelter. Chances are fair that a shelter would be funded. Worst they can say is no.

You know an FFL can make some cash off of SH49. Most travelers and employees from OKC, Chickasha, Elgin, and other surrounding areas need a place to check their weapons before heading on post.
They would make a killing charging $20-30 a month for Off Post Concealed Weapon storage.
Just a thought for the new place.

I'm sorry, but I don't. I would like to know what was referred to as Tri City Club Range earlier? I currently drive to Duncan to shoot and anything that sounds closer is appealing to me.
