Default Anyone been in the Maryland - NYC area lately?

My son and DIL will be in that area next week and possibly have 2-3 days personal time. Other than the normal sites, does anyone have special recommendations? Also, for those who've taken their CCWs, what did you with weapon when crossing into Canada? Thanks!
Keeping your word may cost you some money, but it'll never cost your reputation!

I was in bethesda MD for 1 month for medical treatment. Just outside of DC. No guns in DC, Cannot C Carry in MD, You cant even bring an unloaded pistol into NYC. I just dropped my pistol off at a gun store in Rockville, MD and had it cleaned the time i was there.

Dropping it off to be cleaned is a great idea.

I just got back from that area (Baltimore, Philadelphia, DC, and NYC) two weeks ago.

I took in a Yankees game and left NYC with the same feeling I had the two other times I have been there; you can keep it.

If you have never been to DC, you can do anything there and it will be very rewarding. I would make an effort to visit Arlington cemetery. The changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier will give anyone goose bumps. If you stay somewhere near a Metro station getting around the city is cheap and easy. We stayed at the Courtyard Arlington Rosslyn which is only about a block from the Rosslyn Metro station.

The Inner Harbor in Baltimore was awesome. Besides the attractions (Constellation, Ft. McHenry) the food was out of this world. Within walking distance of the inner harbor is Mo’s where I had the best crab of my life. Also close is little Italy with Sabatino’s for dinner and Vaccaro’s for dessert. Those are the places Jim Traber is always talking about on the Sports Animal and all I can say is wow!

In Philly, taking the tour of Independence Hall is a must. If you like sea food, you can’t leave without trying the Chart House. It was expensive but worth every penny.

I was up there for three weeks and did not see near as much as I would have liked so plan ahead as much as possible.

Having been stationed in MD-DC twice and traveled extensively in NY-CT-MA for contractor reviews, here's some additional info on the gun laws.
VA- Good to go. Stay in VA and ride the metro into DC, DO NOT TAKE ANY WEAPONS INTO DC!
MD- Legal to have unloaded gun stored in car going through or into and out of MD, BUT ILLEGAL TO JUST DRIVE AROUND WITH GUN IN CAR!! Must be going betwen "authorized destinations."
Not possible to play tourist and legally keep gun with you, leaving with gun shop is legal.
NJ-Recent Federal Appeals court case upheld NJ position that you can travel through NJ with unloaded gun stored inaccessible, but IF YOU STOP YOU CAN BE ARRESTED FOR ILLEGAL POSSESSION!!
NYC- No way, no how, does not even recognize NY state pistol possession license.
NY State-May travel through state in continuous journey, illegal if you stop overnight.
CT, MA, RI-Can travel through, but cannot stop with unlicensed gun stored in vehicle. MA has exception for competitors with documented entry in MA, for the period of the competition. (Thanks to S&W competitions in Springfield.)
    VT,NH-good to go.
ME-Legal to posses and transport, non-res CHL available.

Remember, many of these states require their permit to POSSESS a handgun in their state, and they don't make exceptions for visitors!

Go to Inner Harbor in Maryland. Cool place especially for kids. I wouldn't even take my pistol. WAYYYY too much red tape and opportunity to get into trouble with the law for nothing.
