7.62x25 will defeat body armor. Unless its super heavy duty.

I put away my 9mm's away after reading the long post on here from a coroner in Atlanta. I started carrying my Ultra Carry .45 or my Ruger LCR .357 mag.. I just bought a H&K USPc .45acp so it will be added to the mix. I finally got the wife to ditch her Sig P230 sl .380 and she got a Beretta Storm PX4 9mm subcompact. It's not a .45 but,it's better than a .380. I'm lucky that I have a wife that enjoys shooting. She waiting for the hot weather to pass so she can get out and shoot her lightweight AR I built her. I hope that if we practice often enough ,the pistols will be big enough if needed.

The only thing I'm going to change is to start carry 147grain HP instead of 124grain and start carrying two spare mags instead one.

+1, to bad the armor penatrating ammo is illegal. Might as well carry the 30 round kel tek pistol.

Headshots from my M&P loaded with Speer GD 124 +P. If If have the opportunity to rush, I will attempt it. If my four mags are depleted and I'm able to close the distance, out comes the blade aiming for either ear cavity or the soft spot at the back of the head where the spine meets. I have not wife or kids to worry about, so I feel I'm obligated to at least attempt to neutralize the threat.

It isn't the caliber of weapon you carry that is as important as much as your shot placement. If you have never shot a weapon with a laser in a low light situation.. try it! I have a red Crimson Trace on my LCP & Glock 23. In low light, I much prefer having that comforting 3/8" bright red dot on the target itself... over taking the time to try and line my iron / night sights up with the target that is located 15ft or more away. I can stay focused on the target 100% versus trying to watch my iron sights & the target at the same time. I know that at any where from 10 feet to 50 ft, my bullet impact will be within approx. 3 inches to the left or right of that red dot. It is zero'd so the bullet will hit the dot itself at 21 feet.

With a 3 inch certain impact area... in center mass... you put your red dot on a bad guy's chest between the nipple area, you are gonna get a good hit. Someone with body armour.. a red dot on the head and a tripple tap, you are likely to get a hit... and then even a lowly .380 can put out the Bad Guy's lights.

If you get a CT laser, they have a batteries for life program. If you go to their web site, you can order a free DVD about their lasers. They also have Green lasers.. that are better for day light situations.. but they use up batteries pretty quick, as I understand the power drain is something like 3x's that of the red dot laser. Even with showing my laser to others and all the practice I do with it... my batteries last well over 1 yr. But I change them yrly, whether they need it or not. If the batteries are still good.. I switch them over to use in my lighted rifle scopes.

I posted this in the other thread on the Colorado shootings and will post it again here. An MSNBC news story provided this tidbit: "CNN spoke with the CEO of Tacticalgear.com, which said it sold Holmes a Blackhawk Urban Assault vest for $107." I followed the link provided in the story to the above website, and the vest sells for $106.99. It is also NOT bulletproof!

In the situation being discussed a laser on a handgun may be a bad idea.
A dark smokey movie theater that laser would be highlighting your position. The shooter obviously had no problem dumping alot of rounds in any direction do you really want him to have a better idea where your rounds are coming from?
So far the only "hardware" solution I could come up with is one of those slide mounted red dots on a full sized pistol.
I do wholeheartedly agree that it is about shot placement not caliber(to a degree).

Am I too ignorant about bulletproof vests? I always thought that if you got shot with a bpv on, that it wold still knock your dick in the dirt. Break a rib or two, maybe the shock puts him on his ass. The only thing it does it prevent penetration. Maybe a buch to the chest would subdue him enough to slow the attack? Is that correct?

Yes thats correct because the vest absorbs the energy of the bullet. It will break ribs and give nasty bruises.
