Let's start a poll on whether you should or not....
They can remove the entire nail but it will almost certainly grow back. Lots of live nerve endings for a while. FUN
I caution you against removing the root. You won't be able to enjoy a normal life.
Good luck. I've had ingrown toenails off and on for years and they've "killed" the roots and they have still come back ingrown... :/
My daughter had her engrown toe nail cut out a few months back. Pretty nasty looking. The doc said it was likely due to her years of wearing dance shoes. It's much better now. Good luck on your surgery.
Trim your toenails straight, not tapered at the edges. We teach all sorts of of useless things in school but nary a word on the proper trimming of the toenails
On a serious note, my wife had serious problems with ingrowns. Her doc finally killed some of the root with acid and she hasn't been affected by ingrowns or the technique yet.
Out of curiosity, what did you cut your toe on Been?
