Default Favorite local "unusual or strange" food eatery

    Sooner State Pawn
I was watching some food show that was discussing restaurants serving new, unusual, strange or otherwise funky (good funky) foods and it occurred to me that such places may exist here (OKC in my case) and I never even knew it. So not having any way to really find these places, if they exist, I ask the OSA'ers to share any place they know of but also what they liked best there.

We're not talking steaks, fried chicken or spaghetti, that's pretty common table fare. I'm thinking stuff like sea urchin, goat meat tacos or crispy pig ears...you get the picture. Does this unusual food exist here in the city, and if so, where is it and what did you think of it?

    Local, Lamb fries at Cattlemans,
I've been blessed with travelling the world with the Military, business, and pleasure, and I could do an Andrew Zimmerman show. There is nothing I won't try within reason, and insects have been on the plate.....cooked, and raw.

Any of the good taco trucks in S. OKC and mid OKC will serve lingua (cow tongue) tacos. Fung's Kitchen has a B menu that's written in English that has their authentic chinese menu, which is full of awesome authentic cantonese food that beats the crap out of the Americanized crap that comes frozen and served in most Chinese restaurants and buffets. They range from roast duck, crispy pork, beef and flat noodles in black bean sauce to "weird" things like their fried frog legs (really good) and jellyfish, ect. Tokyo Sushi in north OKC has some authentic sushi from your traditional nigiri to sea urchin.

I was of the "ewwww bait" crowd till I was forced to try it and found that I really enjoy most of it. To the point that I don't really consider it unusual food. It's pretty common these days, even in OKC.

I've tried the lamb fries at Cattlemens, they were pretty good. Better than the steak they serve but that's another story.

Excellent suggestion, I've been wanting to try some traditional tongue taco's and such. I've heard the Menudo at Casa Perico is supposed to be very good (only served weekends).

Tasty but doesn't really qualify as strange or unusual.

I actually ate there today after a shopping trip to OKC from Ponca. Its been 20 years since I ate there.
What they offered for a ribeye was a cheap serloin.
Tough and overcooked. No marbling. I won't go back and fight the flies on my food.

Thanks for mentioning Fung's and Tokyo Sushi. I've never heard of Fung's, but have put it on my Urbanspoon wishlist. I've heard of Tokyo Sushi, but have never been there. I've never tried sea urchin, but have always wanted to. Do you know how it's served there? I love sushi in forms of nigiri and, better yet, sashimi, but can't stand any one of the 20 or so different California-esque type rolls I've tried. I just don't like the cream cheese, avocado and all the other crap rolled up with it. I don't mind sticky rice, I'd prefer none (which is why I go with sashimi when available), and I don't mind seaweed, I'm just after the meat.

I was in Cozumel this past Thursday and tried conch for the first time ever. It was really good, but not as tender as I had hoped.

This is a really great thread subject, Brandi, thanks for starting it. I wish I had some suggestions, but all of the "odd" food I've had was always out of state. Is there any place in the OKC metro that not only serves escargot, but actually serves delicious, sweet, and tender (not bland and mushy) escargot?
