Yup, those younger, athletic women will do it every time!
Well, after I started dating a younger, athletic woman, I decided I needed to lose some weight and get back into shape. That and my XL clothing was starting to get tight and I didnt want to invest in new hunting gear. Anyway, the GF has convinced me to run in a 5K race with her and so far I've lost 15 lbs training the past three weeks. She is a fanatic about her diet and gym routine, so I am really playing catch up. But I refuse to go fanatical on my diet changes. Besides running three days a week, I've made the following diet changes:
No pitchers or buckets of beer
No sodas
No donuts
Much, much smaller portions for my meals
More wheat bread and brown rice
More fruits & veggies
Less pork and more fish and chicken - I love grilled Salmon and Tuna!
I try to avoid eating big meals late in the evening
I refuse to use weight watchers or any of that other crap. I just need a balanced, common sense diet that is easy to develop and easy to maintain. Probably my best investment so far has been a set of digital scales with a BMI readout. It lets me monitor my weight fluxuations through out the day, so I can better evaluate how my body responds to different foods at different times of the day.

Way to go!
I made the same decision last year and have lost 60 lbs so far - still need another 10 off
Running and calorie counting were the key for me.
Since June 2011, I've run 3 1/2 marathons and am training for the full for November.
Keep it up!! I went from hating running, to tolerating it, to loving it
Are you guys in a running program or just on your own?
Stay dedicated and good luck.

Sounds like your doing well. Motivation is key.
Counting calories and crossfit I went from 268 to 220 in 3 months.
I'm in my 7th month of my lifestyle change. I exercise 5 or more days a week, and thought I was doing well on my eating. It all came together when I started counting my calories. I use myfitnesspal.com, it works great. I am now down almost 40lbs, I feel great, no more high BP, no Acid Reflux, no snoring, for 51 I feel damn good.
In the last 2 months I have really gotten into cycling, it is an incredible calorie burn for the time invested. I rode 2 hours and 20 minutes yesterday, logged 39 miles, and burned 1900 calories.
admirable. i've been trying to do the same thing but failing miserably on the soda & beer.

myfitnesspal app is great
I lost weight before on what I thought of as a balanced diet, and I'm amazed how much better I feel and perform now that I eat an almost entirely primal diet. And have NO trouble keeping weight off. It took me a few baby steps to get there, but I doubt I'll ever go back. Something to think about.
And congratulations!

good job.
i've lost 45 lbs since the first of the year. all i did was cut out soda, tea, and sugar. cut the amount of food at meals. don't eat out anymore. also cut put fried foods. drink lots of water. when i get a hunger i will eat a piece of fruit and drink plenty of water. a good tip a dr gave me was if you fill hungery just take a couple bites and go back to what ever you are doing. it will kill the hunger pains. if you don't believe me try it you will be surprised. my blood pressure went from 165/97 to 115/60 after the weight loss.
take a man hunting or fishing for a day he will eat for a day.
teach a man to hunt of fish he will eat for a lifetime.
Those younger fit women will do it to you every time. Best of luck on getting into shape but, remember if it dosen'y pan out you can always return to the dark side.
Keep it up and stick with it! I took some time off but am starting back up to finish up my weight loss. Lost 55ish lbs (25% of my body) and now going for the remaining 10-15 before I transition to weight lifting to bulk up.
Good for you! I have started getting serious about my health as well. I have not lost much weight, but I have lost a few inches in my waist line. My wife and I are doing this together and I feel so much better. I eat fruit when I want a snack, no fried foods, keep the carbs down, no pop, but I do drink ice tea. We joined the new gym on Memorial and go 4 to 5 times a week. Keep up and continue to post your progress. Oh, and to keep this gun related, my IWB holster feels MUCH better with my handy dandy Glock tucked away.
My reasons were different.... Type 2 diabetes at 38 years old. I went with the Primal diet. I cut out all sugars and grains. I lost 70 pounds in 4 months (275 to 205 @ 6'0"). My goal was 220, so I beat that!! I started working out and have gained 5 lbs. back.
The lifestyle was tough at first, but easy now! Shoot for 100% primal, but live with (DO NOT DEPEND) on 80%, and you will drop weight in a heartbeat!
