    Default Remington 700

I've always known this to be a great rifle. Someone told me not to long ago that there was a major issue with the saftey not working and even the rifle firing just by touching the bolt. huh??? I've never heard of these so called issues.
can anyone shed some light on this?
why would our PD and military use these rifles if they have sooo many problems.
    my classifieds feedback
    thanks

Yes they will do that.............................................. ............. if someone attempts to adjust the trigger and doesn't know what they're doing. I've seen one that would fire every time you closed down the bolt handle. I've only owned two 700's, no issues though.

I wonder if a Timney trigger replacement would bypass that little part that they were talking about coming out of alignment. And if this is as big of a problem as CNBC is claiming, wouldn't there have been thousands of articles out there on how to do fixes to the problem? Very curious indeed.

    1) That was only claimed to be an issue on the older trigger systems. The newer externally adjustable systems have been redesigned.
    2) The gunsmith that claimed Remington's trigger was false makes a living off of testifying against gun companies.
    3) An overwhelming number of the cases of misfire by 700s was due to user tampering or horrible maintenance.
    4) I have an older trigger system on my 700. Wonderful stock trigger, crisp and clean.

    Don't hesitate on a 700 for a good price.

I personally am very impressed with the 700 series and this is after being a Winchester guy for many years. I too believe that some of the problems may have been due to user influence.

Ditto to what Okie4570 said. I have two with the older trigger. One of them is set at 2 lbs. and is very safe. The other is a SSA M40 and it was too good out of the box to mess with. Then I have an AAC-SD that has the newer junk trigger that I replaced with a Timney.

I like the new x trigger. A little heavy, but crisp. Of course it wanes in comparison to the '68 BDL in the safe...

This story surfaces in the news every few years and surfaces on this forum every few months. I am pretty sure if you have one you are concerned about you can send it to Remington to get checked out. Would not hesitate to every buy one based on this. Thy can be fixed or have the trigger replaced. Like others have said it comes from untrained people tampering with them.

I have an older 700 in 300 mag, it was manufactured in the 70's I believe. My dad bought it new, no one has never messed with the trigger, and it has been very well maintained it's entire life. It sure as hell has a problem though, as it will fire if the stock or bolt are bumped. If my dad or I ever take it out (which rarely happens, because of the problem), the bolt stays open until we are ready to take the shot (and then, it's closed REALLY gently. That 300 mag is brutal, even when you're prepared for it).

I've done some research on the issue, and talked to Remington about it. They said it was a known issue and offered to repair/replace the necessary parts for $20 (plus the cost of shipping them the rifle). I just haven't bothered yet, it's a good excuse to keep me from beating up my shoulder

An out og the box 700 should not do that. Of course, messing with the trigger or anything in and around the chamber could affect it in this way.

I have a 1968 vintage 700BDL in 7mm Rem Mag, I have owned this rifle for many many years and always taken good care of it. I have never had it fire BUT when closing the bolt it will drop the hammer as if you are depressing the trigger. It dosen't do it all the time (actually rarely) but has done it a few times.

Wylekyote, just drop a Timney in that 300, and put on a muzzle brake. It's a shame to let that nice thing sit in the safe. Changing out a trigger on a Remmy 700 takes about 15 minutes. Easy breezy.
